Patch of Sunshine

A golden, speckled wolf laid sprawled out belly-up to the sun. Most wolves would not have preferred such a vulnerable position, but she found it comfortable. For the moment, that was all that mattered. Besides, luck was on her side.
Just about asleep, a tremor suddenly swept through her body. It was enough to shake her awake, and she jolted upward quickly. Too quickly, she tripped and rolled down the side of the rock, almost landing in the lake below.
For having good luck she was still awful clumsy.
The golden wolf rubbed her head with her paw then stood again dizzily. She knew that tremor had meant something.
Shaking her head and making her poofy mane follow behind it like a slinky, she cleared her head. "What was that?"
Blue eyes to the sky and pink nose in the air she sniffed curiously. "Must have been important. Nothing like that happens unless it is important."
The wolf climbed onto the rock again, looking out over the lake. "Nothing wakes me from my naps either. At least they shouldn't." She focused again, letting the tremor return. This time she was ready for it.
The feeling was almost electric, a light buzz that filled her eyes with sparkly colors, mostly golden. It murmured into her heart, like a tickle. The first time this had happened to her it made her laugh hysterically then panic. Now she was used to it. It reminded her of fizzy apple cider. If she could be any drink, she would be cider.
She tightened the invisible muscles inside her being, looking out and seeing clearer where the tremor sourced itself from. There was something big happening, a massive clump of magic moving. She hadn't seen anything like it before.
The wolf moved her ears like antenna, filtering through the signals. She knew it didn't actually do anything, but it was fun enough she did it anyway.
She let the buzzing in herself shift closer to her eyes. It was as if she could see it: a white orb filled with all colors of magic. Like a white balloon filled with smaller balloons that had sprinkles in them.
She laughed at the comparison in her head. "Oh gosh, I really am crazy!"
The wolf took a step towards the magical bubble, almost immediately tripping again and sliding down the rock. Thankfully she stopped before the water. "I really need to stop talking to myself."
Coming to an agreement, the golden wolf stretched and headed off towards the compass in her gut.
