They arrived late at the hotel, all bringing back their new clothes and jewelry. Lokan had brought a pack of chocolate muffins and container of cheesy potatoes he eagerly devoured. Side effects had not yet worn off, apparently.
Melody took quick advantage of the hotel shower, changing into comfortable new pajamas. While Nate had never gotten used to civilization, he did have to admit being clean felt good.
As Nimera and Lokan both took their turns, Nate sat with an arm around Melody, who curiously flipped through the channels to see what she had missed. It appeared to be only politics and other garbage, apparently not much.
She didn't care to watch anything anyway, setting the remote aside and leaning into the welcoming arms of her wolf.
Melody was impressed that Nate, despite living as a wolf was still more of a gentleman than many of the people they had seen wandering about in the malls. He respected her as a lady, keeping her modest and never even attempting to look at her in the many occasions it would have been easy. It would have been easy for him to enforce they stay in the same bed, he had a good excuse too, as her protector and boyfriend.
It was no lack of passion or interest, it was entirely respect. He would do nothing he felt would make her uncomfortable.
Within the other room was a different story.
Anu and Cleo were already prepared for sleeping. Cleo rested her head peacefully on the pillow and Anu held her, looking off into nowhere as he did deep in thought. Chances are he was still thinking about her. That was usually the case when he could feel her against his skin. When it wasn't he was thinking about blood or revenge. Occasionally, he thought about all three at the same time.
Anya sat on the corner of the bed in her nightgown, wearing a towel on her head and brushing her teeth as she watched the latest news flash on the hotel's TV. Most of it was nonsensical and non important but her attention snapped back into pace as the news anchor shifted stories.
"-has recently been filled with countless reports of ghosts and hauntings. People in the area have claimed to see strange visions and even glowing creatures appear and reappear in the middle of the night. Once barely on the map, this small town is now becoming the largest spiritualist hot spot in the United States."
Anya rolled her eyes, turning to call out to Jynx. "Hey, I think I found Edit."
He walked in with his shorts and a towel around his shoulders. Jynx took a look at the news then shrugged, resting a hand on her shoulder. "Why not let him have a little fun? No harm done."
She raised her eyebrows at him. "You don't think this will cause any problems?"
He smirked and whistled as he walked out to grab his own toothbrush. "Edit will think of something, he always does. Just having a little fun that's all."
She shrugged and rested her head in her palm, flicking through another channel as she mumbled to herself. "What kind of idiot have I unleashed on the world."
That night Anya had new, strange dreams. She saw battles, refugees. She saw change. Throughout it all, she felt the powerful feeling that something was missing.
Or someone.
