"We will be unstoppable! We are getting so close I can smell them!"
Anu rushed forward as he followed an invisible trail.
Cleo, Jynx and Anya followed quickly behind him.
Keeping up was hard enough when they were walking. Cleo wished she could have had more practice running.
Anya and Jynx did not seem to have any trouble.
"How can you be so sure they will want to join? You tried to kill them!"
Anu chuckled, jumping over a fallen log and running over the grasses. "I tried to kill Jynx too and here we are!"
Cleo didn't want to be a poor sport but was growing tired, she felt her heart thumping wildly and her lungs heave. "How close are we?" She could barely get the words out from the panting.
Anu stopped almost immediately, slowing himself and circling back to her. "Sorry Love, I'm excited. I'll need to move a little slower. They are not far, not far at all. I can smell them."
"Can't you always smell them?"
"Well yes, but it is much stronger now."
Cleo nodded tiredly. She was not one to wear out quickly, but they had been sprinting the last hour and running at a quick pace since exiting the halera tribe. She reminded herself of Nate's sheer size as a halera and how quick he was able to move.
She was grateful when Anu slowed to a walk at her side.
Letting her breath recover, they walked a while until she felt the need to lay down.
"I'm sorry everyone, I'm not used to traveling."
Anu gently licked her mane as she recovered. "I should probably rest more than I do." He spoke quietly. "I have gotten so accustomed to pain getting tired no longer bothers me."
Anya looked at Anu in surprise. "You don't get tired?"
He chuckled to himself. "No, I do. I get tired the same way I get hungry or I burn. Physically I do and it hurts but I heal so fast and push through the pain so it does not bother me."
Jynx growled lightly. "You were on fire! Flesh burning off! That didn't bother you?"
Anu shrugged. "If you feel pain often enough you get used to it."
There was silence among while.
Cleo finally stood again and stretched. "Sorry I am slowing us down, I think I am ready to go again."
"Never apologize love."
Not even an hour later they reached the forest side.
Anu could smell it strongest now; Nate's familiar scent and the pleasant aroma of Melody.
They were almost touching.
But where were they?
Anu turned past a massive oak and stood nose to nose with the massive superwolf.
Yellow eyes flicked a brief red that burned into his own, sharp white fangs appeared against the silky black fur with the scent he was led to.
A low growl echoed from Nate's throat, showing every intention for a fight.
The blood wolf would need to play his cards carefully to avoid those fangs.
Anu stepped back and laughed.
"Little brother! Long time no see?"
