Hermione stayed for a little longer before timidly excusing herself to go home to Draco.
The way he looked at her today, full of anger and hurt still clawed at her tummy making her feel guilty.
She just wanted to go to him. To hug him and lie on his chest, snuggling. She felt bad for the way she had handled what he'd told her.
He bit the bullet and told her knowing she may flip out, and that was exactly what she did. The more she thought about it, the faster she began to walk, eager to get to him. To make things better.
She bounced on the balls of her feet as the elevator moved up the levels and she flew through the apartment door the minute the lift dinged open.
The house was silent.
Creeping towards Draco's door, Hermione gently knocked. "Draco?" She murmured.
No reply.
She sighed before trying again. She guessed if she was in his shoes, she wouldn't want to talk to her either.
She tried again, "Draco?" She tried the door handle and found it was open.
Pushing his bedroom door open, she peered inside and found him propped up on a pillow at his window sill, asleep with a book sprawled across his chest.
She edged into the room, watching him. He looked so peaceful. His long, golden lashes lay splayed down his structured cheekbones and his face lay smoothed of any worry lines complimenting his chiseled jawline.
His chest rose and fell steadily as he slept on. Her eyes welled with tears at the sight of this peaceful frenemy whom she'd known for quite some time now.
What Ginny had said had come as quite a shock but really, she knew deep down that she was falling for him. Maybe she even knew she had already well and truly fallen for him. The shock was more that it had been said out loud.
Not by her though.
It was her turn now. Her turn to say it out loud...to him.
Shrugging off his coat, she lay it on his bed and took the book from his chest, placing it on the bedside table. She noted the title of the book and smiled to herself. She had already finished her copy and she had to say that it was a truly interesting story with a lot of adventure. She wanted to be brave like the little Hobbit in her story, maybe if she had a magic ring like his, she would be.
But she didn't.
Throwing the thought away, she lifted the big duvet he was wrapped up in, scooting over to lie with him.
Draco stirred and his eyes snapped open. He looked around groggily as Hermione snaked her arm over his tummy and pulled herself into him so her head rested on his chest.
She felt his body stiffen at her abrupt gesture.
"Hi.." he said unsure of what was going on.
Hermione breathed a shaky breath. "Draco, I-" she swallowed hard. "I think I might love you too."
Draco froze. Was he still asleep?
He felt her tears soak through the front of his hoodie.
He immediately moved out from under her, placing her on the pillow he lay on and hovered over her, his hand on her soft, wet cheek. "Hey, what's wrong?"
He stroked her cheek with his thumb and when she didn't answer, he drew his lips up to hers, ghosting her lips with his own, making it clear that if she wanted to, she could turn him away at any moment.
