Chapter 21

"Oh great, another punk to annoy me. But damn she's looking fine" Kankuro said causing me to shiver under his watch. I looked at their headbands and noticed that they were from the hidden sand village. I sighed, "just put the kid down or else" I said holding my kunai up.

"We have a few minutes before he gets here, let's play punks" Kankuro said as he lifted his finger up and tripped Naruto. This caused Konohamaru to get scared and start kicking around mid air.

"Get lost your way out of your league" Sasuke said throwing a pebble at Kankuro. I sighed as he pulled something off his back. 'Crap he's a puppeteer' I thought not sure if I should activate my sharingan. I felt Shikoku growl at a new voice "Kankuro you're a disgrace to our village, stop it or I'll kill you" I followed the voice shocked that I wasn't focusing on who's around me, I noticed someone behind my brother upside down. He had bright red hair and sea green eyes, which looked cute cause of the panda look. He jumped down his back facing us.

My body seemed to move on its own throwing a Kunai at the red boy. I was shocked, I didn't do this but was more shocked when sand came out and protected him.

'That's my brother!' Shikoku yelled as Gaara turned around staring at me. I sweat-dropped, "u-um are you Shukakus host?" I asked him scared out of my mind. "Yes, What of it to yo-" he began but stopped as his eyes glossed over. I frown ,do I do this when I'm talking to Shikoku? 'No brat, Shukaku is talking to him and Shukaku has control that's why' Shikoku said causing me to sigh with relief.

"It seems I have no reason to kill you" Gaara said to me as his team looked at me shocked. "Y-your not going to kill her even if she attacked you?" The girl said while analysing me. "Wasn't her, lets go Tamari and Kankuro" he said as he began to walk off. "I'd love to see your fan sometime Tamari!" I yelled out to her. She put her hand up in a wave and continued walking.

~Mini Timeskip ~

We waited in the clearing wanting to see what Kakashi wanted, maybe it had something to do with what those ninjas were here for. 'Shikoku, why didn't Gaara attack me?' I asked curious as the shocked faces of his team came to mind.

'Since I'm his brother, Shukaku wouldn't kill me. Or so can't as if I die he dies and it works both ways' Shikoku said matter of fact. This caused my heart to stop, 'Wait does that mean if Gaara or I die, the beasts die?' I asked scared. 'Something like that brat, Yes before you ask if you die then so does Gaara. If Garra dies then so do you' Shikoku said. I almost tripped over as I felt my heart drop 'I guess that's a reason not to kill me...' I thought sadly, thinking that the red head wasn't a cold hearted killer.

"They seemed generally surprised he didn't kill you, Mai" Sakura said looking at me suspiciously. I shrug "Maybe I have awesome powers?" I said well more like questioned. Everyone laughed before going serious "What are chunin exams?" Naruto asked us causing the three of us to sweat drop. 'Didn't he listen at the academ- never mind' I thought while sighing loudly. Sakura then went on explaining what it is causing Naruto to get excited about it.

Kakashi finally showed up and suggested us for Chunin exams. I balled my fists up, I will get stronger and protect everyone I care about. I looked towards Sasuke and saw that he was determined too, I couldn't help but feel sad about that. He was one step closer to taking a wrong path and killing Itachi. Kakashi then disappeared leaving us to do our own thing. "Sasuke I'll be home late tonight, please don't wait for me" I said to Sasuke as the others had already left. "Hn" was all he said as he went in a random direction. I continued walking forward, wanting to go deeper into the forest. I found a perfect spot to chill, it was like a hill with a lake and waterfall falling into it.

I smiled pulling out my scroll that held my 'bits and pieces' and summoned my seed pouch. I opened it and grabbing an apple tree seed before planting it in the ground not far away from the lake. I pulled the required signs and whispered "Nature Style Life Jutsu" before stepping back and allowing Nature to do it's thing. Every time I do this Jutsu, I can't help but smile and remembering back to the village. I climbed up the tree while grabbing an apple and sitting at the highest and most comfortable branch. After a while I finished my apple, I then focused on meditating.

After what seemed like hours, I heard someone above me. I looked up in time to see a few shuriken come raining down on me. I quickly brought out my senbons and threw them at the shurikens pinning them to the hill side. "HEY! Don't hurt my tree!" I yelled at the intruder. I heard them chuckle before landing down on the ground beside my tree, I jump down before going into a stance.

We then both started to find ourselves in a heated taijutsu match, I was about to start using ninjutsu when I felt something click. "I-Iruka Sensei? Why are you disguised as an Hidden Mist ninja?" I said dropping my guard. I then heard a poof and out came the one and only. He grinned rubbing his neck sheepishly before saying "Ah Mai, I didn't think you'll know it's me. I was testing you all" I looked at him weirdly "For the Chunin exams?" I asked not quite believing it. "Yes, I wasn't sure if all the rookies were ready" Iruka sensei said before disguising as that person again. "Good job Mai" he said before poofing off. 'Well that was weird' I thought jumping up again in my tree. 'You leaf brats are weird' Shikoku said adding his two cents in.
