Chapter 29

~ Time skip ~

" Ow! Get off me you pink-headed brat!" A deep voice yelled causing me to wake up from my painful slumber. I felt something on my forehead and noticed that Sakura put it there as well as covering my body with bandages. I quickly got up and looked over seeing a short pink-headed girl biting the guys arm as he was punching her trying to get her to let go. "Sakura!" I yelled recognising her and running over and kicked him causing him to fly back as Sakura let go. I landed hard on the ground as my body isn't really listening to my mind. "Mai!" Sakura said from next to me as I looked up at her. "L-Look out!" I yelled pushing her down before pulling hand signs and gathering my chakra trying to do a jutsu only for the mark to pulse causing me to cough up blood again. "What the-- Uck" I yelled as one of the ninja took the liberty to kick me in the stomach. I couldn't move as I felt each and every kick that he delivered not even able to make a noise. 'Shikoku...' I thought before I felt menacing power come from the tree where Sasuke and Naruto were. I then saw Sasuke come out and slowly walked towards Sakura as he asked her who did this while she answered. His eyes were cold and piercing as he looked around before his eyes landed on me. They softened a bit before somehow becoming harsher.

He then slowly went up to the oblivious person who decided to grab my arms and pulling them up behind me as my head hung low. "I like these arms.. They are quite pretty" the ninja said as he began to pull harder causing me to scream out. My eyes widened as I felt a bunch of Chakra nearby while one of them showed pure bloodlust, I looked over to the bushes before I felt the hands on my arms disappear. I feel myself fall forward only to be caught by Sasuke. "S-Sorry Sasuke" I said tears in my eyes as I felt his blood thirsty aura began to go before coming back when the enemy ninja went to hit him. He picked me up and jumped back dodging the sound waves, he then put me down softly as he went to deal with the ninja. I then looked at the bushes again and noticed that there were about 2-3 teams around us. 'Are they enemies?' I thought not thinking I would be answered. 'No, their allies. Glad to see ya alive brat' Shikoku said I felt my body become lighter.

I then turned to look at Sasuke to see him go to kill them all. I used this chance to run up behind him hugging him close. "Sasuke!" I yelled but it didn't seem to do anything as he kept going towards them dragging me behind him. "N-Ni-San!" I screamed as he seemed to stop at the outburst as he slowly looked back at me, I couldn't hide my tears as this side of my brother I feared. He seemed to see the fear as his eyes widened before clutching his neck in pain. "Sasuke.." I said as he slowly dragged me into a seating position with him, to someone else it would've looked like he was hugging me. I blushed as it has been years since he even openly touched me but not only is he touching me, he's actually hugging me. "Sorry Mai" He whispered before quickly getting up as we heard people coming over, I couldn't help but smile at my brother.

"Sakura! Your Hair!" a familiar voice yelled causing all of us to look over and there he was, the knucklehead ninja. "Oh this? I needed to get it cut, It was getting in the way" Sakura said as Ino went over to fix it for her as Shikamaru and Choji came over to me. "This is so bothersome" Shikamaru sighed while I just giggled at him as he rubbed his neck. "eh?! Mai what happened?!" Naruto yelled running over to me looking at my wounds. "Nothing Naruto, it's from him" I said not wanting to bring it up in front of the other teams. Naruto nodded in understanding before heading over to Sasuke. I felt another set of eyes on me causing me to look over and only get a glimpse of red hair. 'Hmm is that Gaara? No can't be.. he doesn't care..' I thought sadly slowly getting up as my neck was burning like mad.

~ Timeskip ~

"Naruto how about I go get us some fish? You go help Sakura and Sasuke" I said completely forgetting I can't swim. By the time I remembered Naruto was already gone leaving just me and the fish. 'Well great, good job Mai' I thought bitterly before slowly getting into the cold lake. I then began to think of a Jutsu that'll help catch the fish, I smiled as I remembered Zabuzas water Jutsu that trapped Kakashi in the ball. I pulled the required hand signs before doing the Jutsu. I slowly brought the multiple bubbles of water up concentrating hard as I've never done it before. "MAI!" a voice yelled causing me to loose concentration and loose the fish as well as the loose rocks beneath me slipping dipping me into the water. Next thing I know I'm being pulled up by someone while they were yelling at someone else "Baka! She can't swim!" Sasuke yelled at Naruto while he anime cried at me. "Im so sorry Mai! I tried talking to you but you wouldn't reply!" He yelled rubbing his face all over my wet clothes. "It's fine Naruto, Sasuke... I'm sorry about the fish" I said sadly before getting up. "I'll get it this time" I determinedly said as I began to do it again and this time it seemed easier.

We all sat down happily beside the fire eating our cooked fish and talking. 'This is the only good part of the exam..' I thought before smiling at everyone as they finished. "I'm going to for a walk" I said getting up and jumping away tree to tree.
