Chapter 22

It seems I have been looking at the moon and stars for ages before I heard someone beside me. I looked up and saw that it was Gaara from earlier. "Hi" I said feeling a bit nervous and shy. "Your not afraid of me" was all he said sitting down beside me. "N-no I guess I'm not" I said as I pulled an apple from the branch, "Apple?" I offered. "Thanks" was all he said while taking a bite. After a while of comfortable silence I decided I wanted some answers "So your Shukakus host? What's he like?" I asked to see if he's like Shikoku. "Yes, he's cold and bloodthirsty. Like me" Gaara replied still looking at the moon.

"You don't seem bloodthirsty to me" I said but soon regretted it when sand was about to come at me but was halted. "You know you can't kill her Shukaku" I somehow said but it wasn't my voice, it was Shikoku. Gaara only clutched his head in pain as I tried to think of what to do now. "Seems You're his host then" Gaara said while standing up before continuing "What's your name?". I blushed as he looked at me intensively. "M-Mai" I said silently cursing my stuttering. "Bye Mai" was all he said dispersing into sand. I looked at my hand, seeing some of the sand he left behind. I turned my head in confusion, "Why does this sand feel so familiar yet so warm?" I say to myself.

'I don't know kid, your quite different then those other annoying humans' Shikoku said as he disappeared into the back of my mind. I put the sand in a little gourd I somehow had in my scroll of 'bits and pieces' and attaching it to my belt. I couldn't help but feel warm with it near. I hopped down from the tree and decided to work on some ninjutsu. 'Kinda wish Gaara stayed, would've been a cool sparing partner' I thought before continuing my training.

The sun was nearly up when I decided to stop training and meditate. After a while of meditating, I somehow fell asleep on the branch of the tree.

I woke up looking around, how did I get this blanket? I thought looking down at the red blanket. Huh maybe Sasuke visited me or something. Wait wouldn't he have woken me up or taken me back to the compound? I neatly folded the blanket and put it in my 'bits and pieces' scroll before continuing my way back to the compound. After a while I finally made it back, I almost closed the door completely when a voice said "where have you been all night?" I jumped not thinking I'd get caught. "Wait you didn't know where I was?" I asked confused. "No you didn't tell me Mai" Sasuke said crossing his arms.

"Gomen Sasuke, I was training and lost track of time then somehow fell asleep in my tree" I mumbled placing my two pointer fingers together. " *sigh* at least your fine" he said before walking to the fridge. "Here" he said pulling out some food. "Did you make this?" I asked shocked that he cooked. "Hn now eat" was all he said leaving me to eat. I couldn't help but have a huge smile, my brother cooked for me. I looked at it, proud that it actually looked decent to eat. I grabbed my chopsticks and put some in my mouth. I couldn't help but let tears fall down my face as I fought to swallow it.

'Just like Itachi" I thought sadly still eating the food, refusing to let Sasukes efforts go to waste. I smiled as I finished all the food he cooked, I could tell he really tried since I was always cooking. I cleaned the dishes and went to thank Sasuke. Still having the huge smile on my face. 'I love you too brother' was all I could think.
