"I WANT YOU to meet my mom."
My eyes widened at Seth's words and I couldn't form proper words as I fumbled with the sheet of paper that crumpled under my vice grip.
"You-you what?" I thought for a moment that maybe I'd heard him wrong. Maybe my mind was playing dirty tricks on me and all it would take was one firm shake to pull me from such a sudden thought.
Last night was a completely disaster and I was certain that Seth never wanted to speak to me again. You can imagine my surprise when I'd woken up the next morning to a message from Seth, stating that he wanted to meet me at the diner at 12 O'Clock.
Seth blinked once, then twice and he sat before me, straightening his once slouched posture until his back was as straight as a ruler. "You heard right." The edge of his lip curled upwards and I tilted my head to the side. "But...why?" Seth licked his lips and averted his gaze to the ground.
His jaw clenched and then unclenched and I found myself admiring the way he effortlessly looked irresistible. His charm was something he'd occasionally put on, almost as if a button was controlling it and all it took was one gentle push for it to be turned on.
"Okay." I suddenly found myself stating, nodding and then meeting Seth's blank eyes. I don't think I'd ever seen his eyes so empty. I then began to wish he'd look at me the same way he did last night, clenching my fists, I sucked in a breath of air and reminded myself that that wasn't ever going to happen again.
Seth's mother was a sensitive issue. I was unsure why he wanted me to see her, but I didn't ask questions. Seth sprung to his feet and slid out of the booth, waiting for me to join him by his side and follow him out to his car.
The weather was miserable today and I shivered when a gust of wind brushed past me and kissed the bare skin of my arms. Even when we'd slipped into Seth's car, I still felt cold, but I didn't complain. It just didn't seem right for me to start verbalising my issues when this was a sensitive time for Seth.
I could tell because of the way he was acting that he was far from his normal self. Usually, he'd smirk around me and I missed it, a lot, but I also knew that last might played a big part in it too. His eyes would glint with mischief and his words would escape his lips like fine silk. Today, he couldn't even bring himself to smile. The whole time we'd been at the diner it seemed as though he was in deep thought.
I'd only just realised that he'd avoided my question but again, I didn't push him to answer. I was sure that his motives would be revealed soon enough.
