The music is loud.

That's the first thought that crosses my mind as soon as I step inside the party.

The second thought is, why all the neon? Those girls came with a purpose!

"Hey, Mabry!" Avan greets with a strong alcohol stench coming from his mouth. I nod in return, grimacing. "I don't think I've seen you in a bit, how you been?" He takes a sip out of his red plastic cup.

"Around." I look around the party. My eyes search for the one girl I'm here to impress this evening. "Have you seen - "

"We're are here too." Carter barges past Julian and I with a grin. Avan opens his mouth to speak but Carter interrupts him, "Have you seen Nikki?" Carter's head moves around the room.

"Nikki?" Avan halts mid - sip.

I roll my eyes. This will - no doubt - become all about Nikki. It's always about Nikki. I refrain from groaning and focus my eyes to look through the sweaty bodies.

"She's coming?" Avan smirks. He looks back and pulls an arm out the crowd. "Hey, Lockwood. You hear?"

My blood runs cold. Wyatt. It's been about a week since I've seen him. I heard he got suspended for punching the girl but I didn't think I'd see him before his time was up. I shove my hands in my pockets as an attempt to dismiss him.

"I heard." Wyatt smirks. "Haven't seen her in a bit." He taps his chin. "But I'm more interested in the new girl."

We lock eyes.

"The new girl?" Avan questions. "I heard she was your girl." Avan points a finger in my direction, oblivious to the tension between Lockwood and I. "I was told we aren't allowed to "touch" her." His finger make quotation marks.

Wyatt lets out an obnoxious laugh. "I don't think so." Wyatt smirks. "We had a nice talk a few days ago. She seemed very available."

That -

I take a step forward, my shoulders and hands ready to crack his neck. Two pairs of arms hold me back.

"Woah." Wyatt holds his hands up. "She isn't yours until you close the deal, man." A smile breaks out on his face, taunting me.

"Don't listen to him." Julian mutters.

"Am I missing something?" Avan scratches the back of his head.

I take a deep breath and pull away from Julian and Carter. "I'm fine, I'm fine." My head moves around in a circle, trying to relief the tension I feel it. "I need something to drink." I shake my head as I brush past Wyatt and Avan.

Once at the table, I look through the drinks. I've been drinking since twelve years old but only on occasion. I did it because Logan did it, no surprise there. And since I'm a lightweight, I need a light beer. It would look nerdy to check the amount of alcohol on each drink... right?
