"Where did they say they were?" Julian looks around the empty mall. "Nikki isn't responding to my texts."
I shrug in response, clenching my phone in my hand. I spent all of last night trying to find something to wear. I ended up choosing a leather jacket, white shirt, and jeans but by then, it was around six in the morning so I didn't sleep much. Right now, I'm functioning on coffee and Gatorade which I'm sure aren't a good combination.
"HELL - O!" Carter exclaims at the empty mall. Julian and I jump in shock.
"Shut up, man!" Julian pushes Carter.
Carter laughs. "I've never seen this mall closed." Carter looks inside the shop beside him. "How much did it cost to rent it out?"
"Let's just say... my credit card is maxed out." I scratch the back of my neck nervously.
My dad has been calling me non - stop. I'm not supposed to use it unless it's for an emergency. I think this is the second time I've gone over the limit. The first time was when I brought limited edition sneakers. I got whipped so hard I couldn't sit straight for weeks. I can't think about what will happen when I get home tonight.
"Really?" Julian tilts his head. "Did Nikki's friend not get you the discount?"
I nod. "He did. But it's a big mall and on short notice so..." I trail off. Just thinking about the amount of money they took out of the card gives me anxiety.
"Hey guys!"
The hairs on the back of my head rise. It's like a scene out of a chick flick. Two pretty girls walk toward the group of boys with their hair flying behind them. Laughing and saying something that makes it seem like they are out this world.
I look around for the fan.
"Wow!" Carter whistles. "You look pretty!" He sighs dreamily, his eyes taking in the demon called Nikki.
I look her over quickly. She's... decent. She's wearing skinny jeans and an orange frilly shirt. Victoria, on the other hand, is wearing a short dress. Or a long shirt? I don't know anything about clothes anymore. I know she has a belt around her waist... or a shoe string?
She looks pretty anyways.
"Did you wait long?" Nikki brushes her hair to the back. "We went to place the bags inside the car."
"How was it?" Julian wonders.
"Awesome!" Victoria giggles, clapping her hands in excitement. "I've never been inside a mall without people! The sales people were so nice!" She jabs her elbow at Nikki. "They treated us like royalty, right?"
Nikki nods. "It would be less awkward with more people." She frowns. "The workers were following me with their eyes. I felt obligated to buy stuff."
Victoria laughs a strange laugh before speaking, "And she did."
