"So why are we here?" Julian looks at his watch. "I have work in about two hours and I was hoping I could take a nap."
"Yeah. Yeah." With a sigh, I grab a book and place it on the shelf. I know I'm supposed to check the last names and place them in the correct order but I'm experiencing... feelings.
I groan.
"Is he okay?" Carter walks up to us, his backpack on his shoulder and a guilty look on his face. My eyes harden and I settle with looking at the shelf in anger. "Okay, so you are not." Carter sighs. I hear the pulling of a chair and the sound of something falling on the floor.
"How long is this going to take?" Julian asks. "You've barely spoken all day."
My eyes stay on the shelf. Carter betrayed me. I never wanted anyone to know of my fear of heights but he told everyone who mattered. He didn't look sorry. And since we carpooled together, he left me at the party without taking me back home.
"I already sent you a text of apology. What more do you want?"
My head turns to glare at Carter. "Your head on a stick." My tone of voice comes out louder than expected.
"That's not nice." Julian mutters.
"Sounds like fun." Carter sarcastically mutters as his hand runs through his hair. "I'll do whatever you want." He pauses. "Except that." He narrows his eyes and points a finger at my face. "Or anything gross."
One of Logan's tips was to keep your enemies guessing what you'll do next. Carter always knows where to hit.
So if I don't forgive Carter, he'll be my enemy?
Nikki walks out the elevator with Mrs. Adler in tow. Mrs. Adler raises an eyebrow and walks towards us. Nikki follows. "What's wrong with you boys?" Mrs. Adler places a hand on her chin. "I sense anger and..." Her fingers hold her forehead. " Guilt. Yes, guilt." She smirks.
For a brief second, Nikki's and my eyes cross but I quickly look away.
To think that Nikki liked me for two years is just - I don't know.
"They are having a cat fight." Julian announces as he leans back against his chair. Carter and I shoot him a glare. His mouth twitches.
"I see." Mrs. Adler hums. "Is it about a girl?"
Carter and I look at each other. He bites his lip before moving his eyes toward Nikki than to me. My eyes furrow in confusion. Nikki fakes an awkward smile.
"So it is." Mrs. Adler crackles. "This is so exciting. I've always wanted to help best friends." She claps her hands. "How do you usually solve your problems?"
"We just..." Julian yawns. "We just let it go."
I nod, "I won't be mad in about fifteen minutes."
"So I'm not needed?" Mrs. Adler frowns. "What a waste of my time." She turns her heel to walk towards one of the offices. "Oh. And don't think I don't see slacking off with my shelves! You better do it right!" Mrs. Adler points a finger at my face. My face moves up and down quickly.
