I made a mistake.
I said something to Victoria I shouldn't have said and am now the outcast of a couple lower social class girls.
It doesn't sound urgent but I've never forgotten what Logan said when he left.
Tip Eight: Girls (any girls) can make any guy seem undesirable with a little gossip.
It happened to an old friend of mine during sophomore year. A girl said he came onto her during a senior party, other girls made up similar stories, and he spent the rest of sophomore year as a social outcast. He was even voted out of the soccer team.
The thing is, he wasn't at the party.
Crazy, huh?
"Are you out of your mind?!" Julian whisper yells.
"What?" I look down on him.
"You are not going back over there!" Carter scolds, pulling my sleeve.
I pull away. "What are you talking about? I'm going over to apologize." I look back at Victoria's table.
This morning, Victoria went out her way to avoid me in the halls. The girl literally ran past me and into a random classroom. I know because she entered a science classroom instead of the junior pre - calc' classroom. And now we're at lunch.
"No, you're not." Carter pats down the seat next to him. I reluctantly place my tray down and plop my body on top of the seat. He lowers his voice. "You can't apologize to a girl in the cafeteria." He leans close to my ear. "That's enough to get you kicked out the team!"
Julian shakes his head. "I hate to say this but I agree with Carter."
"Yes!" Carter swings his fist in the air.
"No." Julian closes his eyes in regret. "An apology has to be sincere. Doing it in front of our classmates isn't going to appear that way." He takes a huge bite out of his hotdog. "Feel me?"
"Close your mouth, man." Carter places a napkin against Julian's mouth.
"That's - " I think over what to say. "Than, where am I supposed to apologize? In chemistry class?"
"Why are you apologizing anyway?" Carter tsks. "She's the one who told you to "go to hell" first."
"I don't know." I shrug. "I think it's basic nature for a man to apologize for whatever the woman is angry at."
"Really?" Carter's eyes widen.
Julian taps his chin. "My sisters tell me that all the time. I've tried to think of ways to bypass that rule and I've been... unsuccessful." He clears his throat. "It's kind of sad."
"We're not talking about that!" Carter leans over to smack Julian over the head. "You are going to stay with us and try apologizing over text or in class."
