~Tobirama's POV~

"Why did they flee all of a sudden?" I asked Niyo, who was currently on her knees, looking defeated when actually she had won.

"She was carrying a child. I... I killed it." She shook her head and brought her left hand to her head, hurting her wounded shoulder in the process.

"You need medical attention. The questions can come later." I was going to help her stand but she slapped my hand away and gave me a sad and angry look.

"I don't need anybody's help." And with that, she was gone.

As much as that behavior or hers was rude, I excused it. There were more important things on my mind. I needed to find out about the Tanogata clan and send them a warning to not trespass on Konoha borders again and in the meantime, I also need to find out more about Niyo.

With determination, I too left the clearing as the first rays of the sun started shining.

~Niyo's POV~

Maybe I shouldn't have left so rudely....

I fisted my right hand against the wound to keep it from bleeding anymore and walked to my cabin, gathering a few herbs on my way because knowing the Tanogata, Takumi's sword must have been poisoned.

The sun had just risen and everybody was still asleep, so I made caution to not wake anybody and noiselessly arrived at my cabin, where I set my sword and the herbs and took off my shirt, after pulling the blinds on the windows.

It was difficult grinding the herbs into medicine with one hand but I managed it and after its application, I wrapped the wound and put on a fresh shirt taking care that it did not show any bandages at all. And when I was hiding my bloodied shirt and the supplies for first aid, I sensed a chakra approaching. It was Morino-baa. I especially did not want her to see this so I made haste in concealing everything but even still, I was late.

"Niyo," came the grandma's stern voice. "What happened?"

"Nothing." I answered and avoided eye contact, putting away the rest of the things.

"Look at me child." I did.

"It's nothing, really. I just ran into Tobirama-sama during my watch and that fouled my mood." Well it was half the truth.

"Fine. From this day onwards, I will make sure nobody bothers you about marriage and-"

"Thank you." I didn't let her finish and hugged her out of pure joy and relief. Oh people will whisper things behind my back but they would never dare to say ill in my presence anymore.

"And throw that shirt away, the blood won't wash off it and it's beyond repair anyways." I nodded, rubbing the back of my head sheepishly. Who was I kidding? Of course she knew. She always did. "Now rest." And she left.

I did as she advised me and tried to sleep but my head was replaying everything that had happened in the night and I found myself wide awake even hours later, contemplating everything.

I admired how Tobirama wanted to help me at all costs but stopped when I told him to. Maybe he just wanted to help because he thought I was a weak woman. But he did come to my aid when I was cornered, without second thoughts...

At that time, I was considering taking up his offer of matrimony but one look at Makiko and that chance went out of the window. I remembered the bruises on her neck and arms before I landed any hits. I knew those well. They were made by hands of men. She was abused at the hands of her esteemed husband of course and now I went and killed her child.... What will he do to her... I didn't mean to do that. If only I had known...

I rubbed my eyes free of any tiredness or emotion they might be feeling and got up. It was time to scout the forest. I put on my shoes and headed out. The sun was too bright on my eyes, maybe because of my lack of sleep so I dismissed it and continued.

I spotted Miyori on the way and grinned seeing her still broken teeth and now the eye bags. No longer perfect Miss Miyori. The forest was alright, no lasting damaged from the fight earlier, no weapons lying around, I picked them all up. I reset the traps then finally went to Morino-baa who wanted to see me about new patrol duties and things like that. I was the eldest and the strongest here so consequently, I was also the one on the council.

When grandmaa's cabin was in sight, I quickened my pace. My wound started stinging, a feeling that soon followed my whole left arm and spread to my right as well. I dismissed as the itch before healing but when my breathing become labored and my vision started blurring, I was sure that it was the poison taking effect. My last sane thoughts before falling into oblivion were that I should have taken Tobirama up on the offer of medical attention.

"Niyo!" I heard Mori-baa's strained voice before all went black around me.
