~Niyo's POV~
"Oh finally! I can see the gates!" Relief washed over me and gave me new strength since I was really tired of this plain boring walk to the village. We camped for the night in the woods and resumed our walk at first light. I was not really that bothered by the walking but a few miles kilometers from the gates, my left shoulder started aching, the one that was pierced by the poisoned sword. I didn't let the occasional pain be known to Tobirama and carried my own baggage but maybe my relief did give something away.
Tobirama made a sharp turn and looked at me a few steps away with narrowed eyes. He was probably scanning me to look for something out of place but I was quick to recover from my relieved state.
We arrived in the village, the guards let us in when we said we were farmers on a vacation and took us to their leader, which was a tradition of sorts because they held their leader in high esteem, these guys trusted the higher-up to pass judgment on the visitors to see if they were spies or ninjas or just plain bad news. This made our job easier since we will get to show our faces to the village head.
The whole idea of leading the visitors and such to their leader was dumb – everyone would know where the head was so it was easier to assassinate him. Regardless, we went quietly, mainly because we were 'farmers' and tired from walking and my shoulder kept pulsing; I needed to treat it sooner than possible.
The building we were led to was really huge and had guards posted almost everywhere. The interior was red and yellow and the leader, I supposed, was the one sitting on top of a hundred-stair flight.
"Ryuunosuke-sama, pass thine judgment on these farmers." The guard said and halted in the middle of the hall which had ten armoured men on both sides. We were told to bow and sit on our knees and so we did.
"Hmm... Maru, you can leave." The voice said from above the stairs and the guard, Maru, left. This was in the request that when the guard would be dismissed, we were to take it as a sign that the client recognized us as shinobi from Konoha. Nobody, not one guard in this hall were to know that we were shinobi so we kept out disguise up. "What brings you to my village?"
"We are mere farmers who have come here as for a break from our regular lives. We wanted to enjoy the exquisiteness of this village." Tobirama – er – Tobio, answered while I kept my head down since women were supposed to be submissive. I rolled my eyes at my own thoughts behind closed lids.
"Very well. Raise you head." This was permission to stop bowing and I raised my head and opened my eyes to look at the leader, Tobirama was too. The moment I opened my eyes and they met with the leader, I had twenty swords pointed at my throat. The leader, Ryuunosuke jumped from his seat and took a few steps back maybe to create some distance, as if the hundred stairs weren't enough. He looked scared. I was surprised at this because well, I had no idea how I offended the leader to be staring down at the edge of twenty sharp swords. "A Tanogata?! Why is a Tanogata here?!" The panic and fear was obvious in his voice and therein was my answer.
My clan. My atrocious clan had done something to these people as well.
But, how does he know...
"You thought I would not recognize the orange eyes of murder?!"
I looked down as realization hit me. The Tanogata all had orange eyes and surely they had been brutal enough to this village. I closed my eyes knowing that this man was among many who really hated the people of my clan but... I did not commit their sins... I should not be treated the same way as the rest of them.
"Forgive me, I should have said this sooner that my...wife is indeed from that clan but... she is not like them." Tobirama said, sending me chakra signals to keep my head low. I could kill all these bastards easily but I had a mission and I wanted to complete it since it was a request from Hashirama-sama.
"What do you mean 'not like them'? Aren't all Tanogata murders and rapists? Aren't they all hateful?" Ryuunosuke asked.
"She was thrown out for not being like them. They even scarred her. They don't care for her and she for them. She is not like them."
"Hmm..." The leader seemed convinced. "Very well. You may go." The swords being pointed at me were taken back and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. We were very quick to get out of the place and to where we were supposed to stay.
"Ugh how many people have my clansmen hurt..." I said under my breath as we were walking to our lodgings. "You must hate me too, huh?" I voiced the question that I had been dreading because it was the one final thing standing between me and my decision.
"The only clan I have ever hated more than the Tanogata were the Uchiha and even among them it was only Uchiha Madara, who actually did something wrong. Nobody is born into sin, so why would I hate you for something you did not do?"
"Really...?" I choked out, unable to form words, feeling a strange warmth in my guts.
"Yes."
"Thank you."
