X OUR TRAGEDY X [Senju Tobirama AU]

Chapter 18

~Niyo's POV~

The team departed from the Northern gates at the designated time, at full speed. Tobirama was in the front, I was in the middle and the three students were in the back – this was the formation that we were to follow because that gave me the safest spot in the team so I could locate any trace of the chakra I was looking for.

Tch. It's not enough.

We were moving further and further away from Morinome and I didn't know nor could I find out if the person we were looking for came through this way. Moving further towards north could just lead us away. The energy in the environment and my own chakra were not enough to be sent out in large amounts.

As if knowing that I wanted to circle the Morinome for the chakra, Tobirama spoke, "we are heading to the North because there is a secret spot there. It has connections to the whole country, it will be easier to locate any chakra from there."

I just nodded and followed silently, receding my chakra to reserve my strength. I was not a hundred percent and I did not want to be a burden on everyone so I tried causing less and less fuss even though my chest and back were aching. My chakra was also disturbed because of this strain and I knew Tobirama knew about this because he would glance back every fifteen minutes.

"Eyes front soldier." I commented and smirked at the sniggers from behind.

We stopped in a place similar to the one we had been moving over and Tobirama led the way on foot. The sun was beginning to set and I was getting impatient, wanting to get a hold on that chakra as soon as it was possible. I was very much occupied in my thoughts but once the view was before my eyes, I was at peace. The place was rich with nature – trees, edibles and a stream of clear water. The sound of the water always soothed my nerves.

There was a cave nearby and once near that, Tobirama activated a barrier jutsu, probably to get notified of any intruders or the likes. There was enough space in the cave for two big beds and there was a supplies' cupboard in the back.

"Everyone get enough rest," Tobirama started, "then you are allowed to trace the chakra." He said the last part to me.

"Allowed?-"

"Before you begin to disagree, you are in no condition to strain yourself any further."

"I am fine!"

"Alright then," he said and out of nowhere took out his sword and lunged at me. My hand went back to get out my own sword but my movement was slow and heavy and resulted in a few seconds' delay. "Had I been an enemy, you would have been dead." His tone was strict but his eyes were sterner when he retracted his blade which was millimeters from my face. "Rest."

I sighed and sheathed my sword and placed it on the ground, planting myself there soon after, taking support from the cave wall. Half an hour later, I realized that I hadn't applied my medicine for the back wound and needed somebody to do that for me. I got up from my place and walked outside where Tobirama and his students were by the small fire and tapped Koharu on the shoulder.

"Help me apply some medicine." I told her. She nodded, getting up and following me. I turned my head just enough to look back and smiled, "if you value your life, don't peep." The one at whom this was aimed straightened up and gulped.

Once back to the cave, I took off my shirt and sat back on the ground, helping the girl take off the bandages so she could apply the paste there.

"This is a bad wound..." She gasped.

"Well, nobody died so I guess this is alright-ugh!" I winced from the pain.

"Sensei would have been angry if he heard that."

"Wouldn't he have done the same thing for his village? Even for you three, he would."

"How long have you known him?" Koharu asked, pausing to look at my face.

"He just looks stern... I know because this same face stares back when I look in the mirror." I answered, smiling.

"Then you should be well aware of his care for you."

"I am."

Once the bandages were back on, I resumed my rest and the tiredness was heavier than expected because within seconds, I was unaware of my surroundings and was pulled into slumber.
