Epilogue

~Tobirama's POV~

Kagami, Torifu, Hiruzen and Danzo joined up with me as we moved to a more secure location in the forest where Koharu and Homura were. We found a temporary shelter behind a burned up tree and rested for a few moments. I closed my eyes and put my fingers on the ground and focused for the number of enemy after us.

"There's..." I shifted my fingers on the grass to confirm. "...twenty of them. Judging from their skill in pursuit, I'd say they are from Kumogakure. Most likely from the highly skilled Kinkaku Unit." I presented my team with the situation.

"Counting you, Hokage-sama, there are only seven of us." Homura said, conceding to the facts.

"Where do you think such a weak attitude will get us?!" Koharu broke through the disparity of the situation with hope and turned to me. "The enemy still doesn't know of our location. Right now, we should break through and find a means of escape by ambushing them."

"That's impossible Koharu." Kagami put forward what everybody knew. "We don't have any other choice but to have someone act as a decoy and draw their attention."

"A decoy?" Torifu wondered out loud, already rejecting the idea of it. "That's suicide, who will want to do it?!"

I already knew the answer but I had to see who to entrust with the future, so I just waited to see who would offer. While my team was having a battle with their conscience, my thoughts wandered to Niyo and Yuuri, hoping they'd be ok because at this moment, I could only hope. Death was upon one of us and there was no way I would let any of my students take that blow. They are the future and it is my duty as their teacher to lay down my life if I have to for them to have a safe passage.

"I will do it." I broke out of my thoughts at Saru's voice. All five of his teammates were shocked but I knew if there was anybody more suited for the title of Hokage, it was Saru and he just proved it. "Not to brag, but I am the one most suited amongst us. I'm not gonna die."

Danzo and Saru always fought and this was no exception to it. Danzo had inclinations towards a path different than the one offered by the will of fire and therefore he was not ready to have such a huge responsibility and burden of the village.

"I am going to be the decoy obviously." I said and they all quiet down. "You are all young flames that will continue to protect the village with your will of fire."

Once again, it was Danzo who protested and offered himself as the decoy. "You can't, sensei! There is no better shinobi in the village than you."

"Danzo, you're always competing with Saru about something, aren't you? But what we need right now is to unite as comrades in order to work together. You must first take a calm look within yourself to find who you really are. Right now, you will just put everyone at risk." I shifted to both my students. "Regardless, Danzo, Saru, no need to hurry at your age. That time will come soon enough. In the meantime hold onto your lives." I stood up and faced them all. "Saru...protect those who love the village and those who believe in you. Take care of those whom you will entrust the next generation to. Starting tomorrow, you will become the Hokage." I smiled. "Saru, I am leaving Konoha to you."

"Yes sir!"

There was no other choice. I had relayed to Saru to take care of everyone and to make sure Niyo and Yuuri are ok. I was sure that once told the circumstances, Niyo would understand why I did what I did. It was not easy to think that I would never see her or my son again and it saddened me. But it had to be done or there would be nobody left to make sure Konoha was OK and that my wife was ok.

With her in my mind and my heart, I charged straight towards the enemy, towards my death.

Niyo...I am sorry.
