X OUR TRAGEDY X [Senju Tobirama AU]

Chapter 54

~Tobirama's POV~

"I still think we should go to anija first...your wounds-"

"Really man, apart from it all aching, I feel fine." Niyo protested when I helped her stand after she had rested while telling me what she did.

"You have lost a lot of blood, there is no way you are 'fine'. Your shoulder as well, I don't think-"

"Tobirama, you are panicking. Just help me stand and let's get this over with." I shook my head but obliged nonetheless. All through Niyo briefing me on her plan after she cut off her father's head, I couldn't help but notice the fear settling back in my students. It was probably the third or fourth time that Niyo's actions had them afraid of her. I would be lying if I said I wasn't unnerved as well but I was just handling it well. "Ok, let's first go to the basement then do the final deed."

This was another thing, I did not believe her father when he said that Niyo's mother was in the basement and even if she was I don't think she would be in a condition that won't trigger Niyo's anger even more. She was immediately a little lighter after decapitating her father but I was afraid what the basement would do to her.

"Let me go, you stay here and convince the people to go with you." I offered. She gave me a look.

"No. I want to go."

"You don't even know what you are looking for-"

"I can guide you..." I looked sharply at the guard who volunteered. Niyo on the other hand was relieved that she won't have to run about in an oblivious search. "I used to guard the door."

"Used to?" She asked, her brows furrowing.

"Yes, until I was dismissed from duty and I assume somebody else took over."

"Oh, lead the way then."

Niyo was way too calm and casual about this but I was not. Why was that guard dismissed from duty? Why did somebody else take over? Did somebody else even take over?

"Saru, take care of things here."

I was supporting Niyo walking down the staircase while the guard walked in front of us with a torch in his hand. His chakra was neither calm nor raging wildly to show panic or fear.

"You know if this is a trap, I will kill you." I informed the man.

"I won't betray Niyo-sama."

"Holy crap he called me 'sama'! Tobirama did you hear that?"

"Yes, I am right next to you." I turned my attention to the guard. "What do you mean by that?"

"Just now we were discussing amongst ourselves that maybe joining the village is better for all of us. We have seen so many years of suffering and hardship under the previous clan head that we don't want to go through any of it again. If we join Konoha, we won't have to always sleep with one eye open and worry about getting murdered while being invaded from all sides and well, our women seem to trust Niyo-sama so I guess we will too."

"Well it is certain that you will have peace in Konoha but the doings of Tanogata in the past will continue to be an obstacle in your everyday path, I will warn you about that." Niyo told the guard. She would have made an excellent clan head.

"How much farther?" I had to ask when I noticed Niyo's breathing getting a bit labored since the air started to get thin.

"Just around the corner." And it was. Just around the corner was a big door but it was unguarded. I felt no chakra from inside which confirmed my suspicions. With the wounds my wife sustained I knew she was incapable to sensing chakra at the present so she was not able to comprehend what the eeriness in the air meant and what the silence conveyed. She just went ahead and opened the door.

A few minutes passed of her scanning the four walls with her eyes then she sighed and tugged me with her back up the stairs. "As suspected. He had killed her long ago." She said it calmly but there was nothing calm inside of her. "Let's just...go back."

Once back up the stairs, she just asked the clansmen once to follow her and took off, not caring who followed and who didn't. Niyo was just starting to get over everything that happened in the past and this happened now, even if she showed nothing, I knew what would happen when the silence got to her core.

I wished for my wife to come out of it safe and I swore to do everything in my power to ensure that.
