Santiago
I folded my arms over my chest as I watched Adora through the open bathroom door, watching as she gently combed her hair away from her face.
She hadn't seen me yet, and she also thought I'd be getting home late tonight.
I'd gotten in at around six A.M., and I decided sleeping was a lost cause.
So I stayed up.
I did a bit of reading in my office, I watched the morning drizzle outside, I'd had a lot of time to myself.
Two hours was a lot of time, to me.
I was still clad in the clothes I'd changed into on the way home. I'd stopped over at a rest stop and changed out of my sweatpants and sweatshirt and into a white t-shirt, jeans, and a leather jacket. My other clothes had started to smell.
My mind had been at ease for about five hours, knowing that Mateo was actually on his way back to Seattle, considering I followed closely behind him. I wanted to make sure he was telling me the truth.
Adora turned off the bathroom light and held her towel against her chest, jumping as soon as she looked up from her phone and her eyes landed on me.
I couldn't help the smile that formed on my lips, and she just let out a laugh and ran towards me. "I thought you weren't going to be back until tonight!"
I pulled her up into my arms. "I lied. I drove all night to get to you."
She just giggled and pressed her lips against mine. "I missed you so much."
I smiled, combing my fingers through her hair. "I missed you so much more, believe it or not."
She wrapped her legs around my waist tightly, and I carried her over to the bed.
"God," she said, as soon as we sat down, "we should probably give ourselves some distance from eachother, considering two days away from eachother was too much."
"I don't want distance from you, though," I said, furrowing my brows together up at her, a smile pulling at my lips.
"Yeah, I don't want distance from you either," she said, giggling as she pressed a kiss to the tip of my nose.
I watched as she stood up and dropped her towel, walking into the closet. She walked out shortly in some tiny sleep shorts and a tank top. "I was going to get the house really clean for you today, so you could come home to a nice house. Guess the plan failed."
I chuckled as she sat down beside me. "It was dark when I got in, so I didn't see any damage."
She smiled. "I can't believe you drove fourteen hours from Fresno all night just to get to me quicker."
I smiled. "You're worth it, promise."
She stood up and walked over to the dresser. "How did your meetings go?"
"They went well," I said, "not much to talk about, really."
She tucked something away in the drawer and I stood up, a confused smile on my face as she turned around, a nervous smile on her face.
"What'd you put away?" I asked, nodding towards the drawer.
"Oh, nothing, just an extra pair of underwear I forgot to fold yesterday," she said, "silly me."
I just nodded, narrowed eyes. I reached behind her and pulled the drawer open, her backside stopping it from opening any further.
I just looked over at her and she sighed, stepping away from the dresser.
