Adora
"Come again?"
"A double date," I said, pulling the covers up to the top of the bed, looking up at a helpful Santiago.
"No, sorry," he said, "I don't do double dates."
"Well, you better start doing doubles dates," I said, throwing a pillow on top of the comforter. I smiled and rested my hands on my hips, making him sigh.
He plopped down on the bed and I walked around the corner of the bed, brushing my hands off on my pants.
"Why can't it just be a me and you date?" He asked, grabbing my hand. He pulled me into him and I just smiled, raking my hands through his hair.
"Because I promised Nate and Landon that we'd go on a double date."
"Why can't they go by themselves?" He asked, his hands resting on my hips as his head fell against my chest.
"Because I promised them," I re-iterated, "and plus, they're still kind of awkward around eachother when it's just them. Maybe they'll be a little less awkward if we're there, too."
"Well we can't go on every date for them, you do know that, right? They kinda have to work the awkward thing out on their own-"
I gave his shoulder a good push. "Just this one time, that's all I'm asking."
He sighed and looked up at me. "You better be glad you're stunning."
I just smiled and pressed a kiss to the tip of his nose. He smiled and patted my back, his fingertips lightly brushing against my skin.
"Someone has a birthday coming up very soon," he said, "very soon being tomorrow."
I smiled down at him. "Don't push it."
"What?" He exclaimed, "this might be your first birthday you've celebrated in the King household, but I promise, we make every birthday a birthday to never forget, and that's a promise."
I just giggled. My giggled faded, as soon as I realized I'd be spending my birthday without Brenna.
She didn't come up often. I'd made it pretty easy to forget about her, or maybe it was her own doing. I'd spent seven birthdays with her, though, so this was a new thing.
I quickly brushed off the tiniest bit of sadness, plastering on a smile. "So, I know you have something big planned, so what is it?"
He smiled and winked up at me. "You'll see."
"Santiago, you've made me grow to hate surprises, I think it would just be wiser for you to tell me now."
"Why hate surprises?" He asked, "and why so glum?"
I sighed and plopped down on his lap. "I haven't spent a birthday without Brenna in seven years."
He rested his chin on my shoulder. "That's a lot of birthdays spent together."
I nodded. "Yeah, I know."
He caressed my back, puckedring his lips out. "Well, I know this probably doesn't make you feel better, but I guess I'm her replacement."
I just smiled down at him. "How's the replacement better than the original?"
He chuckled and pressed a kiss to my lips. "Magic."

"Pick Addy out something nice," I said, folding my arms over my chest as the boys wandered into the Gucci store.
