Santiago

I drove home, confused and almost baffled.

A lot of possibilities went through my mind.

Maybe she was there just for OB checkup, like she told me she was the first time she went. Or maybe she was there because she had a friend that was pregnant, and they needed moral support.

Or I was just avoiding the harsh truth.Kids with Adora was something I'd most definitely put thought into. A child wasn't the problem, really. Actually, I really do want at least one child with Adora.

It's the fact that she didn't tell me, no matter if she was or wasn't pregnant.

I'd had an inkling that something was wrong but I wasn't going to push it. Adora was typically under a lot of stress when anything went wrong, and I knew a baby would be considered as something going wrong in her mind, in this moment in time.

I'd stayed at work longer than usual and my employees and I had a get-together, I guess was the correct term for it. My mind had been completely off of that, though, and on Adora.

Was she in trouble?

I sat at the red light, tapping my fingers against the steering wheel. All the possibilities still coursed through my mind.

Why hadn't she told me that she was going to the baby doctor? I could've gone with her, and have been there considering if she was pregnant, I was the father.

I stepped on the gas pedal as soon as the light turned green, eager to get home and find out the truth, if she was willing to tell me the truth.

Adora had a bad habit of keeping the truth from people when she was afraid of the outcome.

A long and winding road later and I was at the gate of my house, and I punched in the code to open it.

I drove through and made it to the driveway, parking in my usual spot. I turned off the car and sat in it for a few minutes, contemplating what to say when I walked inside.

Should I lie to her, and tell her that I completely understood?

Or should I tell her exactly what I thought? I opened my car door and grabbed my keys, walking up to the door. I opened it, considering it was already unlocked, and walked inside.

I closed the door behind me and my eyes landed on Adora, who was standing in the kitchen, talking to the boys.

My eyebrows scrunched together and my eyes darted down to her stomach that was covered by a baggy sweatshirt.

One of mine, to be exact.

I cleared my throat and all three pairs of eyes landed on me, Adora's lips pulling up into a smile.

"Hi, babe," she greeted.

I just smiled and walked into the kitchen.

"Hey, dad!" The boys yelled from the living room.

I leaned against the counter. "Hey, guys."

Adora just smiled at me and bit down on her bottom lip. "You're home late."

"Yeah, I, uh, I threw a little get-together for my employees."

She just smiled. "That's sweet."

I just nodded, clearing my throat. "Yeah, and while I was out, I saw you."

She just nodded. "You didn't have to be a stranger."

She smiled and looked up at me, and I flexed my jaw muscle.
