Forewarning. This will have no Mike in it. I'm sorry. But it will be long and get the nagging Andy problem out of the way. I hope y'all have a good day and enjoy!
I was dreading going back home. I drove as slow as I could but once I was there my heart was pounding out of my chest. My breathing was becoming heavy and I could barley breath. It was about eight at night when I arrived and I made my way to the backseat as the cold swarmed me as I shook to put Rusty's collar on.
I slid on the blue collar I was able to get him and adjusted it as I needed. He jumped down and stood by my side as we made it to the front door. I took the doorknob and pushed the door open. It was unlocked.
I led the dog into the house and quietly closed the front door with a short creak. I turned and was caught off guard when I realized my dad had been watching me as I closed the door. He had been standing in his hallway with his eyes glued to Rusty.
"Look, before you blow up-" he cut me off when he raised his finger into the air to shush me. I stopped mid-sentence and I watched as my dad calmly spoke his mind. "I don't care" is all he said before coming up to me and wrapping his arms around me in an embrace. "I'm just glad you're home safely" he said as he kissed the top of my head.
I held my dad in my arms for another few moments before separating. "I'm sorry I didn't come home. I'm also sorry I didn't tell you where I was going and I'm sorry I brought home a stray" I apologized.
His face was pale and his eyes looked tired, like he hadn't slept in a while. "It's okay. With a heart like yours it was only a matter of time before you brought an animal in need home" he smiled weakly.
I furrowed my eyebrows "Is everything okay? You seem... stressed" I asked, waiting for a response but didn't receive one until a moment of silence.
"I'm fine, Sweetheart. It's just the payments for your brothers injuries has been a lot. I don't want to worry you... but I'm gonna need the car for a while to keep up my work so we don't fall behind on payments for not just for the hospital bill but also the mortgage and the water bill-" I stopped him. "It's okay dad" I smiled up at him. He wasn't too much taller then me, like most people. I engulfed him in another hug. "I'll get a job. Don't worry about it" I smiled against his shoulder.
"No" he said backing away from the hug. "You shouldn't need to do that" he finally stated.
"But I want to" I replied reassuringly. "It's going be okay. I promise" I said before walking carefully up the stairs to my room. I led the dog into my room and set up my music for when I was done putting everything I bought him in place in the house.
I left Rusty in my room and unloaded everything in the car. Once I got back into my room Rusty was distracted by the person in my room.
Andy.
He was rubbing Rusty's belly as he squirmed against the carpet like he was scratching his back.
"Why are you in my room?" I asked. I didn't know what else to say. I didn't want to talk to him about how I was feeling about the situation with everything he has done to me, to Dad, to Mike. It wasn't fair to any of them. I guess asking him why he was there was a good start.
"When did we get a dog?" he avoided the question. I pushed the door open farther and stood by the door frame waiting for him to leave. "We didn't," I began. I folded my arms over my chest unsure as to what to do next. It was like I was talking to a completely different person. "I did" I finished.
He stood up and walked over to me. I held my breath, I wasn't sure why, but I did. Maybe I was afraid he would hit me? Or hurt Rusty? Or.... I didn't know anymore. With Andy I'm wasn't sure of anything anymore.
