I begrudgingly agreed to let us eat in my room. I sat on the couch, watching the city lights and cars flying across the LA skyline and sighed. I can't believe I've gotten to this point. I've always known deep down I would have a life like this, but didn't think it would be an overnight success. We all talked for a while, laughing and making fun of other rappers. It felt like home being around them; like people actually get me. I suddenly felt a head on my shoulder and saw Diego was dozing off. I laughed, got up, and laid his head down on the couch.
"Aww, I think he likes you," Austin teased.
"Why are you acting like he's a dog," I laughed.
Now that I thought about it he does kind of look like one.
"Ok, out!" I yelled "I need sleep!'
Diego groaned. "But, I'm sooo comfy."
"Fine. I'm going to take a shower, and you better be gone by the time I get out."
I let the hot water run down my back as I tried to de-stress. I should probably call Jack tonight. We've been talking less and to be honest, I don't really care. I've heard some of my friends saying he's been flirting with other girls back at school, and if he doesn't appreciate me, then he doesn't' deserve me.
I stayed in the shower probably 20 minutes longer than I should have. I threw on some sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt and left the bathroom. I saw Diego sleeping soundly on the couch and walked over to him. I was about to wake him up, and the noticed how peaceful he looked. I got the strange urge to run my hands through his hair but realized that would be weird since we just met like a few days ago. I sat next to him. He rolled over, slowly opened his eyes, and smiled. I smiled back, and oddly enough, we just sat in silence for a moment. It didn't feel awkward. It was calming like we've known each other for years. Diego broke the silence.
"I'm glad I met you, Sofia," he said.
I chuckled. "Really, why?"
"I just am." "I mean fuck; I've listened to you from the second you started putting out music. I wish I could be half as good as you."
"Stop," I whispered, not knowing if he could even hear me.
"What? I'm just being honest," he said.
"Thanks, it means a lot," I said. A few more minutes passed. I listened to his breathing pattern and how it synced up to mine.
"Ok, bud. I got to make a call, so can you please leave."
"To who?"
"Oh, um...Jack," I said.
"Right...right. How are things going with you know that?"
"Eh, ok I guess. I don't think it will last much longer though," I said.
"Dude, that sucks. Sorry to hear that."
"It's fine. It wasn't meant to last," I said.
Diego groaned while getting up.
"Stop being dramatic. You're literally walking to the room next over."
"Byeee," Diego said as he shut the door.
I laughed. Well, all of that was unexpected. I picked up my phone and called Jack.
The phone call went ok, but I did hint at us splitting soon. He quickly avoided it and said we could never break up and "don't think about that" and other bullshit. I knew he wasn't the best guy. He never was. I'll give it couple more weeks, and then I need to be free.
