Just Be [Nightmare x Reader]

This request is for A good friend of mine named Alisha-Chan. This isn't quite what she requested but I'm not comfortable with the plot she gave me. So I just took the character and the genre.

You sat on the edge of the cliff in an alternate universe you have never seen before. The view was breathtaking, and the ocean below you crashed into the rock of the cliff. A salty breeze went through your hair and weaved around your face. It was perfect. 

"What are you doing?"

A curious yet hostile voice snapped behind you. You don't even need to turn around to know who it was. It was your captor. Nightmare. He took you from your AU as a food source  but he gained more than just a space that day. He gained what he feared was a friend. Or in the very least someone trying to be his friend. It was annoying. But somewhat amusing at times.

"Enjoying the view. Going to join me?"

Nightmare scoffed. You humans and your useless ways of wasting time. Well, it was useful when he hadn't time to kill like now. This AU was serving as a recovery station. Horror, Dust, and Error were hurt in the last conflict and are using this time to heal. Meaning the well ones puts of the group, such as him, had as much time in this world to kill as every other meaningless pawn.

"Why would I do something like that to waste my time? I could be making people miserable right now."

You rose an eyebrow before remembering he fed off of negitivity. You brought your eyebrow back down, not even bothering to look backwards. You can tell he was just trying to deny your offer to spend time with him. He did that a lot.

"Because you have time to waste."

Damn it. He forgot, you knew him too well. You made him soft, and he fucking hated it. He grumbled and watched you scoot over towards the side  lewvong him just enough room to sit down and dangle his legs over the edge.

Nightmare scoffed and crossed his arms stubbornly. He watched you finally turn your head around ninety degrees to look into his cyan eye. You seemed very unamused at his stubbornness. 

"What are you waiting for? King of the Nightmares scared to watch a sunset with a human?"

You knew thst would get him. Nightmare had too much pride in himself. Kind of like Undyne in the Omega universe. Well, almost all universes on that matter. You turn your head black around and smirk. Patience was key with this guy.

Nightmare was beyond infuriated. How dare you so much as suggest he couslnt do such a simple task! He grumbled and strode up next to you, sitting down and looked at the sunset with DETERMINATION. He was so focused on proving you wrong, he didn't see the smile that you can't wipe off of your face.

"See what happens when you just relax?"

Nightmare flinched and jerked his head to look at you. Your eyes were closed and you had a smile on your face, wind breathing in your face as if you controlled it. Nightmare turned his head towards the wind direction and felt it too. It was... nice. He'd admitted, he felt pretty content just being here. That feeling he gets when he's full and satisfied, that's the king of feelings he had right now. Just sitting there with the wind.

"If you let yourself just be once in a while, you can appreciate the smaller things in life. Not everything is negative. Sometimes, things are nuetral."

Nuetral, Huh? Nightmare never thought of that. For him, it's one side or the other. Negatives or positive. Light or dark. Night or day. He never once co sidered thst there could be a sunrise or sunset in between. He never once considered the gray in between black and white. He never once consideredthe nuetral feelings he feels every day. Amusement, content, satisfaction. Those feelings aren't neither negative or positive. Anyone, no matter optimist or pessimist, can feel them.

Nightmare looked back at you, just enjoying the salty ocean breeze and warmth of the sun before it retreats and the moon rises. Nightmare takes a good, long look at you. He felt all these nuetral emotions right now, the closest thing he can get to positivity now he's gone evil and eaten that apple.

He looks back at the sunset and smiles. Not maliciously, not evilly, but satisfactory. You were right. Sometimes, it's  better just to let yourself jus be wherever you are.

Steven Universe references are always fun. I think I did this one okay. It was kinda hard for me. I needed lots of help.
