Chapter 18

   I sat on the counter, sipping a Red Bull, while watching the movie Beth and Stephanie were currently watching in the living room.

   I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and pulled it out. "Hello?"

   "Hey, Skylar, it's Wendy."

   "I know, I do have caller ID. That must be a new concept for you, grandma." I replied with a chuckle.

   "Whatever... Hey, so, I forgot to mention it earlier, but I also got my grandpas beach house in the will."

   "That's awesome."

   "Glad you think so. Since it's summer, I think we should take a vacation up there."

   "Who's we? And when?"

   "Well, me and Jen. We talked Blake into going and I figured you and Rebecca might wanna join in. And plan for this weekend."

   "I'll give her a call, but I'm pretty sure she'll be down for- hold on one second." I said as I took my phone from my ear.

   "Hey! Keep it down in there, I'm on the phone!" I shouted at Beth and Stephanie.

   "Sorry." Came Stephanie's reply.

   "Who are you yelling at?"

   "Beth and Stephanie, they're watching some dumb movie."

   "What movie?"

   "I don't know. Anyway, back to what I was saying. I'm sure Rebecca would be down, but don't you think it's a bad idea to bring Blake along?"

   "Why? She's our friend."

   "Because... she'll be like a third wheel... and I don't wanna put her through that. Remember, Leslie left not that long ago."

   I heard her sigh. "Shit, I hate it when you're right."

   "Do you think it'd be to mean if we un-invite her?"

   "Uh duh. Of course it'd be rude."

   "Well, what are we gonna do?"

   She was silent on the other line for a second before answering.

   "I have an idea."

   "Uh oh, that's never good."

   "Shh, why don't you bring the dynamic duo along?"

   "Beth and Stephanie?"

   "Yeah, why not, they're adults."

   "Nope, uh uh, not happening."

   "Oh, come on, they aren't that bad. Besides, they're just there to keep Blake company."

   I rolled my eyes and sighed. "Fine, I'll ask them, but only because Blake's my friend."

   "Fair enough."

   I set my phone down and walked up to the couch where they were sitting. "Hey, you guys wanna go up to Wendy's beach house with us this weekend?"

   "Sure." Stephanie replied.

   "What about you, Beth?"

   "Fine. Whatever."

   I nodded and made my way back to the phone. "The little rascals are in."

   "Great, now call Rebecca and text me when you know."

   "Sure thing, talk to you later."

   "Bye."
