Tokoyami sat in the shade of a tree, quietly listening to the birds.
He felt Dark Shadow leave him.
Opening his eyes, he saw Kitsune petting the demon. She was still wearing her school uniform.
She peered at Tokoyami from behind her round glasses.
"Hey, Toko-chan."
"Greetings Kousaki."
She fiddled with the end of her braid.
"You look lonely. May I join you?"
"I like being alone", he said, but hesitantly scooted over.
She sat next to him, leaving a few inches between them.
"Sometimes being alone isn't healthy."
Dark Shadow curled itself into Kitsune's lap.
"That's true, but it's good if you want to clear your head."
They sat in silence for a few moments.
Then Kitsune broke it.
"Why do you want to be friends with me?", she asked, gazing at him from out the corner of her eyes.
Tokoyami paused and thought.
"I still don't know", he admitted, "There's something odd about you."
"I'm plain", she said, "I have no interesting qualities about me."
"You might not be able to see it, but I do."
He paused again.
"Something draws me towards you that I can't explain. You're just different."
She looked away. "If you say so."
They let the silence fill the air again.
"But it's nice to have a friend", she suddenly said quietly, "As different as you."

Tyler kept his nose in a book as Ravan rambled on.
"I wonder if Kitsune would want to have lunch with us this Saturday?"
Tyler groaned inwardly.
He wished Ravan would stop talking about her.
He wished he would just shut up.
Tyler has feelings for Ravan. He's had them for years, but would never tell Ravan.
But now Ravan is falling for their childhood friend, and Tyler can see him slipping out of his fingers.
He couldn't let him go.
