Chapter 7

Tokoyami called her name as she fell through the sky.

He reached for her.

Almost.

Almost got her.

But right as she hit his arms, she disappeared into thin air.

Tokoyami jerked out of his bed. He wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.

Kitsune.

Why was he dreaming of her falling? Why was he trying to catch her?

So many questions.

Kitsune dreaded going to school. She didn't want to hear the other kids' laughter.

"Are you okay?"

She looked at Ravan. "Yeah I'm fine."

"Fine as hell!"

"Grayson, no."

The werewolf boy howled with laughter.
"I'm just kidding, but seriously, you're cute as hell. I'm surprised you don't have guys chasing after you."

"I'm not interesting enough to guys."

Ravan scoffed. "You're interesting to me."

"You're my best friend. It doesn't count."

Grayson grinned. "Man you just got friend zoned."

They were all sitting in their friend Oliver's tree house. Ravan, Tyler, Grayson, Antony, Jett, and Oliver. Kitsune was the only girl there.

Antony scratched at his antlers.
"Please calm down, Grayson", he pleaded quietly. Grayson planted himself right on the couch next to Antony.

"So", Oliver said from his seat in the corner, "How's UA?"

"I passed out in class so I didn't experience a whole day."

"Wow Kitsune, that's classy."

"Hush."

Jett apologized profusely again and Kitsune just smiled at him and told him it was okay.

Tyler looked at his watch. "It's 4am guys, time to get ready for school."

Everyone groaned.

"Already?", Kitsune asked, moving Ravan's arm from around her.

"It's not my fault you slept through dinner."

Tokoyami sat in his usual tree, relaxing before he went to school. He did that every morning.

Quiet chatting sounded below him.

"Oh look, it's him again."

"Birdy boy!"

Tokoyami recognized the soft voice.
He gazed down and met Kitsune's yellow eyes.

She's who he wanted to talk to.

He just felt the need to chat with her. It was odd, especially since he didn't like talking to people, really.

Maybe it was the dream he had that was drawing him towards her.

"It's Tokoyami", he said, hopping down from the tree. Dark Shadow went to greet her instantly, spooking her friends.

Tokoyami smirked.
"I see it really likes you."

Kitsune snuggled the demon.
"It really is a cutie, no matter what you say."

He wished she wouldn't say that.
She had no idea what Dark Shadow could do.

The dark haired boy stuck out his hand and Tokoyami firmly shook it.
"Tsubasa Ravan", he introduced himself.

The other boy just waved, making no attempt to shake his hand.
"Hidaka. Hidaka Tyler "

"A pleasure to meet you all."

Kitsune looked at him curiously.
"Are you walking with us today?"

"Actually, I just wanted to talk to Kousaki, if that's okay. "

Ravan looked defensive but agreed. Him and Tyler walked away, quietly talking to themselves.

Kitsune adjusted her glasses.
"What's up?", she asked.

Tokoyami leaned against the tree, his arms crossed. "Not much at all. Are you doing well after yesterday?"

She nodded. "I slept through dinner, but that's alright."

A few silent seconds passed.

He noticed her nervously tugging at her sleeves.

Might as well get to the point?

"I wish to be your friend", he blurted out.

Kitsune cocked her head. "What? Why?"

He sighed. "I honestly don't know", Tokoyami admitted, "But maybe we can chat more?"

She smiled a warm smile.
"That sounds nice", she said, "I love making friends."

"Okay then. It's settled. We're friends now."
