—————"Shit." Millie cursed, rummaging through her back for the fifth time to make sure she had everything. "I'm so nervous."
"It'll be fine." Finn reassured. "Act like it's just another party and not one for you."
"You're right. Are we staying at mine or yours tonight?"
Finn thought for a second, before nodding and convincing himself it should be his. "Mine. If your parents see you smashed again it's not going to be pretty."
"You're right again." Millie smiled, poking his ribs.
"I'm always right." Finn smirked.
Millie admired his smirk, the way it played on his lips made her feel things that scared her just a tad. With him here, she didn't feel so nervous. As she mentioned previously, she wasn't much of a party-goer. A drinker? Absolutely. But not party's where she has to fake smile and pretend to be friends with people she hardly knows and will never speak to again once she's left school.
She hated the fakeness of it all. There's playing nice, yes, but what she despised is when girls bitch about one behind the others back and then be their best friend the next day. She hated fake people, hence why she didn't think much of parties. Saying hey to people she's spoken three words to her whole high school life doesn't seem worth it.
Her mood dimmed slightly and her small smile that she purposely wore on her face for Finn's sake deteriorated but soon returned when Finn's excited smile looked her way. His head whipped round as they turned the corner of Caleb's street. His big hair moving with him which already made Millie feel slightly happier.
She never realised how much a persons smile could be way more than enough to know that one could be completely in love with the other. Over a simple smile, her heart felt warm and cosy and her hands clammed up with nervousness excitement.
It was like she was back to square one. Those feelings of nerves she felt when going to Caleb's party which landed the two young lovers back together. This made her a little more hopeful as to what the night had to offer. She might as well make the most of it, have fun, let loose. It was for her birthday, she needed to stop worrying.
Millie honestly couldn't be bothered to think or worry anymore. She wanted to have a nice night with her friends, so then she crossed her fingers and hoped for the best, not thinking about the things that could go perfectly or the things that could go terribly wrong. She wanted to live, to let go and not care about something for a while.
So, that's what she did.
As the pair walked into the crowded house, the instant smell of weed and alcohol hit them like a ton of bricks. It was a typical, high school party like the many others they attended. The same cliche red solo cups, girls half-dressed dancing on random boys who never even kissed a girl before.
When Millie's eyes landed on Iris, she squinted her way just a little, begging to god she doesn't turn around. Millie grabs Finn's hand and drags him into the living room, Finn instantly obliging and following suit.
Caleb was in the corner and as he turned around a huge grin spread across his cheeks, Millie found it contagious as she couldn't help but smile at him.
