VERY IMPORTANT AUTHORS NOTE AT THE END REGARDING THE ENDING OF THE BOOK! PLEASE READ!
***
Oh great. My life is turning into a book. Yippee.
"Hey, Nerd." Alec comes up behind me. I shove the note into my bag before he can see it.
"Hi." I say, trying not to look suspicious.
"What did you just shove into your bag?"
"Oh, nothing. Definitely not an anonymous note or anything. Like why would I have one of those."
Subtle.
I don't do well under pressure, subconscious.
Obviously.
"Ok. Well anyway, I was wondering if you'd like to have dinner at my house on Thanksgiving? My mom wants you to be there and my grandma wants to meet you." He asks.
"I'll have to ask Jax and Bexie but I'm sure they won't care." I tell him.
Both of his hands fly into the air. "Yay!"
"You're cute. I love you and I have to go." I kiss him and go to walk away but he stops me.
"Do you really have to?"
"Yes. I'll see you at lunch."
"Ok. I love you."
"I love you too. Goodbye."
"Bye."
***
"Zola." A voice comes from behind me.
After I got home from school I had decided to go for a walk. I was probably around a mile from home at this point.
I turn around, clutching my phone in my hand just in case. "Hello."
"Long time, no see." The person says. She looks familiar.
"Do I know you?" I ask.
"Yes. Do you not remember me?"
"I'm afraid not."
"It's Ember. Your step-mom?" She says. "Ring a bell?"
"Oh yeah. But you're not my step-mother. My father divorced you." I inform her.
"That's why I'm here." She says. "Your father divorced me because of you! So that you'd forgive him!"
"Then why are you taking to me and not h-" I'm cut off by her grabbing my arm with a tight grip and pulling out a gun from her purse. She presses the gun against my chest, her finger on the trigger. "Ember. You shooting me is only going to get you in prison."
"No! If I kill you, you'll be gone and there will be no reason for your dad to not be with me!"
"Ember. Seriously. That's very stupid reasoning. Please. Just let me go. Killing me won't make my dad want to be with you." I try to reason with her. It doesn't work.
"Yes it will! If I kill you there will be no proof that it was me and I'll be free!" She says, pushing the tip of the gun harder again me. She starts to press on the trigger and bam.
Everything goes black.
