I get a call Thursday at around five o'clock. I was sitting on the living room couch, watching some show that the twins had put on. I pick up my phone and see that it's from Jax. He had given me his number in case of an emergency or something.

Which means that there's probably an emergency.

Yeah probably.

Which means answer the phone, you dimwit!

Right! That would be smart!

I pick up the phone.

"Hello."

"Alec?" Jax says from the other line. He sounds worried.

"Yes."

"Zo's in the hospital."

Wait. What?

"What happened? Is she ok? Will she be ok? Can I see her?" I rush.

"She was shot and I'll explain more later. She's in surgery right now." He summarizes.

"Ok. I'll be there as soon as possible. Bye."

"Bye." He hangs up the phone and I jump off the couch.

"Who was that?" Ollie asks, tearing her attention away from the TV.

"Jax, Zo's brother. She's in the hospital." I say, pulling my shoes on.

"What happened? Is she ok?" Octave asks, pausing their show.

"All I know is that she was shot and I need to get there." They nod and turn their attention back to their show.

I tell Mom goodbye and leave.

"I'm here to see Zola Thompson." I tell the girl at the front desk. I haven't seen her before so she's probably new. Her name tag says Natalie.

"Relation?"

"I'm her boyfriend." I say, becoming impatient

"I'm sorry, sir. We can only let blood-related, immediate family see her at the moment. You can go to the waiting room and we'll let you know when you may see her." Natalie says.

"Please, I-" I start to beg but am cut off.

"Let him see her, Natalie." Miranda, one of the nurses that frequently takes care of V, says.

"But he's not-" Natalie starts to say.

"I know. Let him see her."

Haha! Go suck an egg, Natalie!

I hang out with Zola too bad.

"Whatever. You may go. She's in room 101." Miranda says, I can hear the bitterness in her voice. (Subtle Zoey 101 reference there)
