"How?" I mouthed back, looking at the man as if pointing out the possibility with my eyes. I didn't think he'd really whip us, we'd get caned sometimes back at the boarding nursery, but it was never so bad we bled. But he'd whipped Andi...
"Clean up the mess," He ordered, checking on the woman. "If you want me to whip you raw I'll do it, you can save us both some time and DO AS TOLD WITHOUT THAT,"
Spit flew out of his mouth and I immediately started cleaning up the mess, my heart pounding. When Andi made to move I shot him a warning glance, shaking my head.
The man heaved the woman up the stairs until I heard the slam of a door. I couldn't believe it, we can run right now!
"No," The little girl croaked, picking up a mop more than thrice her size and attempting to clean up the spit that had flew out of his mouth as he spoke. She didn't look at us as she spoke. "They ouch you,"
But if we'd run, they can't hurt us...
I heard stomping and the man made it down the stairs. He grabbed me forcefully by my shoulder and gave me a big grin, showing off his yellow crooked teeth. "My, what a fairy you are," By the look on Andi's face, he looked like he was about to kill the man and that he was trying to hold back. "Come here... you have such pretty fair locks, you look a picture,"
"T-thank you," I stammered, tears falling down my cheeks. The way he spoke, softly but venomously, it terrified me. I wasn't sure what he wanted me to say, but it looked like I gained his approval.
"But alas, I have to teach you either way," he sighed. "I won't be harsh, but if you dare try to run away you'll see the whip more than once,"
He's going to whip me?! But... I didn't do anything!
Instead, he hit me hard on the head. He hadn't held back, I was sent shooting onto the ground. Yet... I still felt sickeningly grateful that I wasn't whipped. I wondered if he'd let me watch some cartoons-
Ani! No!
He slammed his fist into Andi's head too. I was shocked. Andi was already whipped, kicked, and HIT?!
A rush of anger flourished through me. I could take a knife and stab it straight through his heart. He'll regret being evil, I've watched all the cartoons and movies and shows and everything! Good always wins!
I wanted to squeal.
It didn't last. A sudden realisation flooded my mind. Kill! Kill! I can't kill someone! That's what bad guys do! I can't do it! I don't want to do it! Can't I just call the police.
My heart skipped a beat. Evelyn's words echoing in my mind
My dear father
She called him father.
She was my sister.
The man I was supposed to kill was my father!
He made me!
"Go to your rooms, we'll deal with this later,"
The little girl shuffled up to us, grabbing my hand and Andi's. Blankly, she escorted us into a damp dark basement, similar to the one Andi would get locked in when he was bad at the boarding nursery. Except it wasn't empty, there were a bunch of mattresses on the floor with papery sheets rapped around them. A older girl lay in one, she looked just about Evelyn's age.
She didn't look like her though. She had soft brown skin and auburn wavy curls, she plump and curvy with large soft brown eyes. She looked up in shock as Andi forced himself into the mattress, trying to stop crying from the pain. I shuffled down next to him. "Where does it hurt?" I whispered.
