Tradition

"La la la la la la la la la la,"

The soft rhythm just made me want to sleep more.

"How the heck do you except to wake her up by making her more sleepy?" I heard Andi's voice say.

No, it's OK, I want to sleep.

"So she'll wake up happily,"

"Just spill a cup of water on her or something,"

I do not condone that idea.

"Why would we waste water?"

Exactly.

"Ani, wake up,"

"Wait, I'll finish my dream and get back to you," I grumbled, realising I had to know if dash could save the other Pegasus.

"Honey, Mister will be angry if you sleep in,"

I felt the sudden urge to be sick. I'd completely forgotten. I sat up and rubbed my eyes, sore from all the crying. I stood up slowly, looking at everyone. "What're... what're we supposed to do?"

"The woman-"

"Her name's Jane," I reminded him, annoyed.

"Jane made breakfast and let you sleep another thirty minutes because you looked so tried and precious- you and that other girl-"

"Ellen," I said agitatedly.

"Yeah,"

"What about you?" I asked.

"As if," Andi muttered. "Now get up before we're all threatened with a royal beating,"

He's adapted fast, I thought, following them into the dining room. I stood there patiently lined up on the wall, ready for an order. I couldn't keep my eyes looking straight, they swivelled around looking for Evelyn and Mars. I eventually spotted Mars, asleep in his cage. I couldn't find Evelyn.

Mister and Miss both ate breakfast silently. Miss seemed recovered but her cold grey eyes were stuck on me. She left for work and we were left alone with Mister.

He lounged himself on the couch, watching the telly. I wasn't sure what to do, so I stayed silently in my position. "Get me some water," He ordered. I was even more confused, which one of us?

Jane immediately moved. "No, not you, aren't you supposed to do the dishes?" She gave a rushed nod and ran over to the sink in which she'd placed the plates and bowls and stared scrubbing. He looked over at me and I unfalteringly ran over and got him a glass of water.

"You should be trained soon enough," He yawned. "Such a little puppet,"

He played with my hair, I didn't dare move. I stayed still until miss opened the door and mister went to greet her. My heart pounded and I ran over to Andi and Ellen.

I didn't do anything at all all day. They transported Evelyn into Mars's cage and she whispered to him; I was simply glad she was safe. I lay in bed, listening to Jane talk about boring rules.

"He's taken a liking to you," she finished breathlessly. "That'll mean hell be easy on you- stay on his good side, Ok sweetheart?"

I nodded. I didn't snuggle with Jane and Ellen, I stayed on my own bed. When I heard Jane's soft snoring, I slowly got up and lay next to Andi.

"Hey? Di?"

"Don't call me that," He whispered, rolling over to face me.

"You're the one who started on the nicknames," I whispered back.
