Back in the boarding nursery

I lay in my bed, listening to Jaime's even breathing. My heart danced around in my chest. He was sleeping on a sleeping bag in the floor. Lorraine took my bed and I wasn't ready to fight for it, but he gave me a look and practically ordered me to sleep on Andi's bed. So I did.

I was pretty sure he'd fallen asleep, and that made me even more scared. Lorraine was in the perfect position to strike, I heard footsteps and my heart skipped a beat.

"Hey Ani," I heard her hiss in my ear. I grimaced trying to push her away. "What have you decided? Will you do what I say?"

I didn't know what the correct answer was. I wanted to say no but then she'd kill everybody. A part of me wanted to say yes and get it over with.

So I remained silent. She seemed to take that as a yes. "First task: go carry Jaime onto Andi's bed and sleep where your supposed to,"

I was confused, how could I possibly carry Jaime? And what if he wakes up? What am I going to say? I bit my lip and got out of bed, she sat down and looked at me with a smile.

"I'm sorry," I whispered, unsure of what I was sorry for. I put my arms under him and attempted to carry him, and all the P.E classes finally came in handy, Yes I was shaking and seconds away from dropping him. But I didn't, I managed to get him on the bed and I slipped into the warm sleeping bag. I could see one of Jaime's eyes open the littlest amount in the darkness, but I wasn't sure if it was just my imagination.

Lorraine climbed back into her bed and I felt a sense of surprise. That was it? No death threats?

I drifted into sleep. It felt like seconds when I was woken up, the maddening sounds of birds chirping their mouths dry filling my ears. I let out a yelp, before I could stand I felt two feet practically crush me. I rolled away, my eyes wet in pain.

"Oh!" Lorraine said. "I'm sorry! I didn't see you there!"

Even if it was an accident, I doubt she'd be sorry.

I ignored the throbbing pain- my body probably hates me so much for all the pain I caused it- and stood up, looking around for Jaime. He wasn't there. I felt my heartbeat quicken, and I slowly went outside the room: she didn't stop me. She didn't do or say anything. Relief filled my body and I ran downstairs, slinging myself on a chair.

I looked up to see Jaime helping Evelyn cook, he was simply making egg but he added all these weird spices. Evelyn seemed to stressed and yet so relaxed, dark circles were evident under her eyes and beads of sweat dripped of her jaw. Mars had Andi, Sirius, Dariel, and Andi's friends watching anime, their eyes glued to the bloody fight scene.

I walked into the kitchen and watched Evelyn intently. She, unlike a very engaged Jaime, didn't have the energy to cook. She was just heating up some already cooked beans and while Jaime put the eggs on a each plate swiftly, before moving onto the bacon. He grilled it, adding some spices here and there with a concentrated look on his face. His swift movement and intense concentration reminded me of a baking show.

"Hey An," grumbled Evelyn, plopping the beans on the plate not so swiftly, Jaime put the bacon and then searched the fridge. He moved back to the plates and promptly placed some parsley one each plate. Then, balancing the plates easily, he agilely went out to put the plates on the large dining table.

"Breakfast!" Evelyn called, collecting a bunch of spoons and knives and placing them on the table.

Mars walked in with everyone really exited, Dariel was the only one not smiling. When he caught my eye he gave me a very forced looking smile.

They all sat down on the table. Lorraine finally came downstairs, a murderous look on her face when she caught eyes with me. She sat down, and then patted the chair next to her. I gulped, the brutal expression she wore scared me. She hadn't changed out of her pink bunny pyjamas. Which where bunny trousers and a bunny hoodie. I sat down, trying to ignore the look she was giving me.
