This weekend goes by so incredibly fast and you hate that it's time to hit the road again. Luckily you did get all the rest you needed and you feel like you can take on life again. But first, a very exciting but scary thing is going to happen. You're going to meet your parents in law. Now the media describes this as a very big deal but in reality it's not so bad. When you don't have pregnancy news to share with them obviously.
All the way you're biting your nails. It's this thing you have developed in your teenage years that whenever you're exposed to extreme stress, you will sart doing it. Meeting Tom was a scary thing at first but it wasn't so bad that you were biting your nails. Telling the news about being pregnant to him and your parents ditto. But this. Telling your in laws whom you've never met before is something that brings new stress and anxiety with it. You just hope they go easy on you. Or Tom for that matter.
'We're almost at my parental house. Are you keeping it together, love?' Tom asks you as he sees you shifting in your seat. 'Barely to be honest. I am just scared of their reaction. I mean, they have never met me and I'm already pregnant with your baby. Normally, I would meet your parents while dating you for a normal amount of time before being in this situation. Perhaps even get married to you first if everything goes the regular way but it's not. My parents have completely let me down and I wouldn't wish it on anyone because it leaves a hole in your heart.' You can feel the tears burning in your eyes again. 'I understand. I really do but they would never forgive me if we won't tell them. I'm sure it will be fine. You can trust me.' As much as you want to believe him, you simply can't yet but you won't back down now. You will go in and if it's getting too much for you, you'll just go outside.
But the minute you set foot into his parent's home, it's all good. His parents, Diana and James, are warm and sweet people and you can easily see where he gets his personality from. They love you the minute you introduce yourself and they see right through the age gap because they see how happy their son is with you.
'What a surprise, Tom! And I'm so glad to finally meet you, {y/n}! He has told us a lot about you already.' He has? You stare up at him only to see him smile at you. 'That's so nice to hear!' You happily exclaim while following his mother into the kitchen. 'Can I offer you something to drink? Tea, coffee? Perhaps something different?' You nod and ask for a cup of tea. 'Should I help you with it?' You're not sure if you should yes or no so asking seems like a good idea. 'Oh no, dear. But thank you. I will take it to you in a few minutes. You can be with Tom if you like. I'm sure my husband would love to get to know you as well.' She smiles and you politely return it before going towards the living room where you join Tom on the couch.
After getting your tea, you chat with his parents for a long time until it's time to tell them the news. Tom starts, softly squeezing your knee as he begins. 'Mum, dad, we have something to tell you.' Oh how you love that he calls them like that. You know it's extremely normal for a son to call his parents that but hearing a grown man say it. It's so sweet and adorable. 'What is it? Are you getting married already?' His mother asks what makes you both chuckle. 'Not exactly.' He says with a warm smile towards her. 'You can see it as one step further than marriage but it's most definitely good news.' You look at Tom who, as you can see, is struggling with finding his next words so you decide to help him a little. 'I-I'm pregnant.' You stutter a little and it leaves your lips softly but they hear you loud and clearly. 'What?' His father asks almost not believing you. 'She's pregnant. We're expecting a baby.' Tom says again and his parents are quiet for a few minutes before his mother speaks up again.
'Oh, Tommy! That's wonderful news!' She stands up and motions for you to do the same before she pulls you both into her arms. You're flabbergasted! How on earth is this happening now? Is a reaction like this even possible since you've just met them. 'Thank you, mom.' His father is also happy for you and congratulate you both with a hug and a peck on the cheek.
'We should celebrate! How about I cook us some dinner? Would you like to stay over tonight? We would love to get to know you even better!' You look at Tom who nods at you. 'We would love to!' You then say, still a little off the world from such a wonderful reaction.
When his parents are off doing their things. His mother in the kitchen and his father in the study, Tom slides his hand on your lower back and pulls you close to him. 'I told you so.' He purrs in your ear before pressing a soft kiss against your forehead. 'You were right and I was wrong. I'm sorry I didn't believe you.' You cup his face and gently stroke his cheeks. 'It's ok, darling. I understand your fear because of what happened with your parents. I wish they would have reacted the same as mine. Fortunately mine reacted like this because we have a place to go to and to bring the baby to if we're in deperate need of a babysitter, right? And if I'm being completely honest, I think your parents will come around because you're their daughter and they love you. They will soon realize what a big mistake they made by turning their back on you. I just hope they come when it's not too late in your eyes.' You rest your head against his chest as you let out a deep sigh. 'I hope so too.' What Tom just said really soothed you. It's not like you're going to see his parents as a replacement for yours but you do have a place to go to now besides Tom and you find comfort in that. 'Alright. I'm going to see if your mom needs any help.' You kiss him before letting him go and make your way over towards the kitchen where you ask if Diana needs any help.
