S U M M E R

Katelyn and I laid on my bed, both of us digging through our phones. It's Thursday and a big soccer match was going on tonight at the high school. Bengi would pick us up and take up around five but for now this is what we did. "Conspiracy theories are so cool." Katelyn mutters. "Like can I meet Shane Dawson, will he let us into his mind?"

The bed squeaks as I sit up and rest my head against the headboard. "I think he'd find that a bit creepy."

"Eh," my friend shrugs looking up at me with her mischievous smile. "There is a part on Sunday that Benji got invited to. It's his older brothers old roommate." She took a moment, thinking it over in his head.

"Sorry, I don't think I'll make it." I shrug. Not that I didn't want to go, it's that I didn't know the people that would be there. A girl is not trying to get roofied.

Katelyn frowns. "Why not?"

"Kate, we're not about to go and get drugged out by some college kids just to not remember what happened the next day. Besides, it's a Sunday and I need to study." It was true, finals are coming up.

"Just think about it?" She questions, pouting her lips and widening her eyes. I nod and she smiles. "Thank you!"

We go back to our phones and wait patiently for our other friend to pop up. He FaceTimes Katelyn when he gets here, letting us throw on our shoes before heading out. Bengi is gay and proud, a type of energy that is fun to be around. His boyfriend went to Berkeley and Benji has a full scholarship waiting for him when he graduates.

Ariana Grande blasts through the radio, and we all sing along on our way to the game. Soccer was big at our school, like most sports are. I know Luke will be here considering he plays for the team and was brought all the way here just for the sport.

"Bitch, you look stunning!" Benji claps as we step out of his mustang. "Katelyn, look at our friend."

Katelyn laughs along with Benji. "I know, she's come a long way since fifth grades braces and braids."

The comment hurt but I play along and I giggle. "Alright guys, stop picking on lil ol' me." My arms wrap there way around my body and I put a smile onto my face.

We sit down at the front row of the bleachers. They were small compared to the football stadiums, but there wasn't necessarily a huge crowd. The players begin to warm up and I instantly spot Luke. He jogs up and down the field a few times before doing some stretching. To say Luke looked hot was the least I could do, but he also looked extremely tired.

I listen to Bengi go on about his man, and how he doesn't know if the distance is working. Although knowing them, the next time they see each other they'll be all over one another.

When the game starts, all I do is watch Luke. How he pokes his tongue out a little when focusing on the ball. Sometimes a opponent would cause a hassle for him, but he'd always pull through for his team.

The game ends and we win. We cheer and Katelyn turns to me with her usual happy look, and I return it with my own. I wonder if her smile is just as fake as mine. "Did you decide yet?"

I huff, all my thoughts still on Luke. Last night. His blonde curls. The blue eyes. How he could see through me. Tested me. "What if I brought someone? Or a few people, depending."

"If it means you'd be there you know I don't give a flying fuck."

"Okay then." I quip.

Now it's late. And I mean late. Five in the morning looks good on the sky. The night begins to slowly fade into day and I find myself at the electric box hoping for Luke to be there. Thankfully he is.

When we meet eyes, we don't ask each other what we're doing up so late. Instead I climb up his oak tree and swing my legs in the air. I'm warm. My leggings and jumper comfort the nerves that rush through my bones. "Party on Sunday. Can you come?"

"Nothing better to do." He breathes rather sadly. I brush it off and he continues. "Can I bring Calum?"

"Who?" I search for a Calum in my mind.

"Brown hair, looks Asian but isn't, also from Australia." He laughs.

I remember and snap my fingers. "Oh yeah. It doesn't matter, bring the other two if you really want. I just don't like college party's."

He smiles and nods. "I understand."
