Last few months of senior year seemed to pass all to quickly. It's now early May and Summer and I wait in her living room for her parents to decide what our future will be. They wanted to take their sweet time getting to know me before agreeing to their daughter coming with me. I saw where they were coming from, I would be the same way if it were my daughter.
For a moment I think of what it would be like to have kids with Summer. Would she love and protect them? After all she's been through you'd think.
Summers mother walks into the room. I've learned that despite my hatred for her and the husband, they're genuine and kind. Overall, they just suck ass at parenting. "Hi Luke." She grin.
"Hi Marjorie." I give a small wave with the arm around Summers shoulder. It's hard to not be physical with her. Each day we become closer, more intimate. "How's your day going?" If I was being honest she looks tired of the day.
"It's okay." Andrew, Summers dad wanders in. He has a prominent frown on his face. We didn't really get along. While he liked being active and building things, I was into only soccer and music. Only think we have in common is his lovely daughter. Blows my mind how much Marjorie looks like an older version of Summer. The facial features are exactly alike.
"So what did you guys decide?" Summer asks. She squeezed onto the hand that lays over her shoulder.
"Well we've realized Luke has his heart set on you." Mrs. Royce begins.
Mr Royce shared a serious look to me and Summer. "However, you guys are just getting out of high school. We want Summer to go to college."
"So what does that mean?" I ask with a frown. If they say no, I don't know what we can do. Summer isn't eighteen until later on in the year. After we graduate and I move home.
"It means, you can go with Luke to Sydney." Instantly I smile but keep my calm as Marjorie continues. "But we have to make sure Summer is attending college. When you get accepted to one, you'll officially be free."
Summer jumps up and hugs her parents. "Thank you guys so much. I'm so happy. Ah!" She shriek.
"Thank you." I smile at them and bite my lip to hold in the excitement.
Later that night I sit on Summers bed while she worked on college applications for schools in Sydney. My guitar is in my lap, and I play around with the strings. Since the soccer season ended, Cal and I had been working on music. We loved song writing, it was a way to express ourselves. We think we'll start a band, maybe not.
"Baby, I cant believe they said yes." I state and strum at the thin silver strings.
"I know. To be honest, I'm excited for us and our future." Summer admits with rosy cheeks.
"Aw honey." I coo and lean over to peck her plump lips. "Why don't we save applications for later and apply ourselves to one another." I talk deep. She nods, biting her lip.
"Was that supposed to be funny?" She giggled.
"Oh hush." I laugh back and grab her into my arms, pulling her into the bed. I begin to tickle her sides making her squirm and crying tears of laughter. We loose ourselves in each other, as usual.
