The fusion just stared at me, saying nothing in return. I would be lying if I said this didn't only confuse me but also spook me. Their face was changing expressions very quickly. It went from confused to happy and in the end, they looked pissed off. Was I the reason? Did I do something they didn't like? I had no idea what was going on. Should I tell Edd about this...?

"Er... w-why are you... staring at me like this?" I asked slowly, not to aggravate them.

"It has nothing to do with you, Matt. Don't worry." They shrugged and carefully got up from the bed. I quickly jumped to my feet. I knew they'd just fall again, but to my shock, they somehow stumbled out of the room without falling even once. What...? How?! What did I miss? When had they started being able to walk?

"H-how are you able to walk all of the sudden? Did you... practice? Are you finally getting along?" I questioned in a hopeful tone while I was followed them to make sure they didn't fall. As amazing as their achievement was, they were still stumbling around. So I trailed after them to the kitchen. Oh, I wished Edd could see this. He wanted them to get along so badly and it seemed like they had finally made a step in the right direction. But Edd was too distracted by the things our neighbor had said. I didn't even know why they fought so much anyway. Their behavior kind of reminded me of Tom and Tord... but he said this rivalry was actually meaningful, unlike their fights.

"Don't get it twisted. We're not getting along," Tom answered and opened the fridge with a little too much force."We're just doing this... for as long as we're fused. Nothing more. That should be obvious."  For a moment I was certain I'd seen sadness flash onto their face, but that just couldn't be right. I'd probably just imagined it. They should be angry, not sad. Them being sad was out of character for them.

"And... what are you doing right now?" I gestured towards the fridge.

"I'm looking for alcohol to get drunk since I can't deal with this shit otherwise. Obviously."

"...that's what you want to do? Really? So you think drowning your emotions with Smirnoff will fix things? Wow, what a strong and mature person you are! You are NOT getting drunk while we share a body!" Tord shouted, slamming the fridge door shut.

"Fuck you! I hate being stuck with you! If I can't drink any alcohol, you won't smoke either!" And they were fighting again... At least they didn't hurt each other with fists or knives this time. Not yet at least.

"Guys, we already know that's not helping!" They raised an eyebrow at me.

"Matt, you probably haven't noticed yet, but we, well, loath each other? It's not that hard to miss. And because of that, it's pretty clear fighting helps a lot against stupid Tommy here."

"At least I can rely on my own fists in a fight, not just be dependent on guns and other lethal weapons, commie," Tom hissed. "Can you even fight all that good? I don't think so."

"Seriously? How many times did you use a weapon?! You are just a hypo-!!"

"W-why don't you think about the things you have in common instead?" I asked them nervously. Anything to get them to stop fighting. They rolled their eyes.

"Matt, we have absolutely NOTHING in common. Isn't that obvious? What is there to talk about?"

"Yeah." They really, honestly thought that? Sometimes I really didn't understand why they called me the dumb one. Maybe they were just too stubborn to realize, but that didn't excuse their ignorance.

"You both like fighting a lot, for example. You're into violent arcade games, preferably the ones with guns. You hate stuff that's too happy like Christmas and that Sunshine lollipops song. You-"

"Shut up and leave us alone!" Tord snarled, fed up with my good arguments. "You're so annoying! Me and Tom aren't friends and we will never be! So stop forcing us!" That... honestly hurt. I just wanted to help them! Why couldn't they see that? But whenever I tried to help them in any form I only seemed to make matters worse. That was one of the reasons I had stopped trying and only did things for myself. I couldn't disappoint myself if I knew exactly what I wanted.

I sighed and walked out of the kitchen just to bump right into Edd. Literally. "Ouch! Sorry!" I yelped. "I-is my face okay?" Edd rolled his eyes. He looked a little pissed, but I didn't think he had fought much with the neighbor, judging by his scowl. He had obviously wanted to though.

"It's fine, Matt, stop worrying so much. You look the same as always. How are they doing?" he asked.

I sighed. "Well, they walked in the kitchen without falling-"

"That's great!" Edd smiled. "Progress! Finally!"

"-But then they started to fight because Tom wanted to get drunk, Tord didn't and now he isn't allowed to smoke. I think... ugh, no, it's not important."

"What do you think?" Edd questioned.

"Well... it was...odd. I don't know if it's true... I could be wrong but... I think they fought to distract themselves from something? And act like always in front of me... N-never mind, it's stupid."

"Okaaaaay..." Of course, Edd thought it was a strange thought. I even thought that myself.

"But Edd... I really don't understand why we had to buy purple hoodies for them! Purple is MY color! You know that! It's just unfair!" I whined. That was the one thing that made me furious. I was the one wearing purple! None of my friends should do that! That was just copying me!

Edd glared back at me. There was a dangerous glint in his eyes. "Oh, so purple is YOUR color, huh? So it's okay if you wear other people's colors, but if other people wear yours it's 'unfair'?! Huh?!"

I gave him a puzzled look. "Er... What do you mean? I don't get-"

"You're wearing green, Matt! You don't actually think I'm over the green overcoat, do you?!" Oh, that was what he was talking about... hehe... I was screwed.

I started sweating as he leaned closer, his eyes staring deep into my soul. "I-I d-don't-"

Luckily,I was interrupted by the sound of something breaking. Then, a bottle of Smirnoff came flying out of the kitchen and hit the wall behind Edd, shattering to pieces.
