I was headed to the hospital with dad and Jeremy. At around 4 Jeremy showed up drunk off his ass and we decided the hospital was a good place to go.

I would've been more upset if I wasn't already awake thinking about the night before with Stefan. We had never gotten into a fight before. I tried to see his side. How he wanted to protect me, but I had a problem with being forgotten. He had to have known that. Not to mention the fact that I may have been responsible for setting water on fire. I decided to keep that crazy fact to myself.

We sat on either side of Jeremy as he threw up into a bag in the lobby of the Whitmore hospital. "Geez Jer." I turned away kind of disgusted as I pat his back. What he was doing was not okay. Dad was talking to Matt to explain what was going on on their side.

"Alaric." A doctor came over. She had blue eyes and dark brown hair. "Who do we have here?" She asked looking at Jeremy.

"This is Jeremy. Jeremy Gilbert." Dad said as he helped Jeremy stand up. I held his arm unsure. "He is a little-" dad started.

"Underage? Yeah I can see that. And who's this?" The doctor asked looking over to me.

"This is my daughter Emma." He explained.

"I didn't know you had a daughter." She replied. Were they friends or something?

"Yeah and I'm sort of the legal guardian for Jeremy and Elena." He replied. She nodded and I smiled lightly.

"I'm Dr. Laughlin. You can call me Jo." She replied as I nodded.

"I'd shake your hand but I'm currently helping a stupid teen boy stand." I scolded Jeremy as he rolled his eyes.

"I was hoping you could give him one of those rapid rehydration hangover cure things." Dad suggested to the doctor as Jeremy couldn't maintain his balance. He was swaying back and forth.

"Oh, yeah. You mean, the ones we reserve for professional athletes and starving children in third-world countries? Yeah. I think we'll start with a full workup." She held up an empty urine cup up and hands it to Jeremy. "Physical, blood, toxicology-"

"Yeah. Why don't you throw in an STD screening while you're at it, huh?" Dad added as I looked at Jeremy. I couldn't imagine what kind of germs were on him. Times like these I was glad I couldn't get sick.

"Really?" Jeremy rolled his eyes.

"Yeah!" Dad pat his back. The doctor smiled at him. I couldn't tell exactly her intentions but I knew I was going to give them some alone time.

"Down the hall to the right." Jo pointed to Jeremy.

"I'll help him get there." I replied as we headed to the bathroom.

"I can pee on my own." Jeremy retorted.

"Yes but I don't know if you can get there on your own." I replied as we got to the bathroom.

He went inside and I stayed on the outside of the door and listened in to Dad and Jo's conversation. They joked around before she left to help other people. The smile she put on his face though, it was a memorable one.

Jeremy finished up and we sat back in the lobby. "So..." I started looking to my dad. "When did you meet the doctor?" I asked curiously.

Dad shook his head as he finished filling out paperwork. "A couple days ago. It won't work so don't even try."

"Is it about control?" I asked curiously. He nodded. "I can help you. That's why I'm here." I looked at him reassuringly. "Go after her. She's cute." I looked at him with a smile. He deserved to be happy.
