The next day came around and Stefan and I went to find Caroline. We went to her moms house and it was completely empty.

"So she just dropped everything and left?" I asked looking at Stefan as he started calling Elena.

"I guess I mean- I don't understand how she did all of this overnight." He looked around almost in shock. "Hey. No sign of her at her moms house." Stefan told Elena through the phone.

"Yeah nothing here either. She took all of her stuff from her dressers and desk." Elena replied on the other end.

"That doesn't make sense." I shook my head.

"I mean she just takes all of her clothes, even the thank you notes in one night, and skips town?" Elena questioned as we walked around the house.

"Yeah it doesn't make sense." Stefan replied through the phone.

"Do you think she's trying to erase all memories of her past?" Elena asked curiously.

"I'm sure she's not planning on having a yard sale, Elena." Stefan replied sassily and I raised my eyebrows slightly surprised.

"Okay. Why are you getting mad at me? This isn't my fault." Elena replied not taking it.

"I know. I'm sorry." Stefan replied with a sigh and I furrowed my eyebrows. I wondered what was wrong.

"Okay I'm gonna look around the rest of the campus. I'll let you know if I find her." Elena told him.

"Okay." Stefan replied hanging up.

"What's wrong?" I asked as he put his phone in his back pocket.

"This is because of me." He responded as I shook my head. I knew it was true. I could tell she was upset about us at the funeral.

"Maybe it's not all that though. She had a lot happen." I suggested shrugging lightly.

"But we could've prevented it." He insisted.

"Yeah if you decided to date her instead." I replied with the only, and very unreasonable, option. "Don't put the blame on yourself."

"I can't help it." He replied shaking his head. "If anyone's gonna help her, it's us, and-" He started.

"I think we know it's not both of us." I replied quietly as I looked down. Stefan was probably her trigger, I was almost sure of it. The guy she loved just happened to be the same one I did. In some ways it sucked because he would have to be with her to get her back. In some ways I was jealous, but there really wasn't anything I could do.

Elena texted us in a group about how Caroline saw Liam. At that point we were already at Whitmore hospital looking for any animal attacks. We both split up to find Liam and I found him eventually.

"Hey, Liam." I called out as I grabbed his arm. He turned around and smiled up to me.

"Hey, Emma, right?" He asked as I let go.

"Yeah I had some questions." I replied looking at him.

"Like medically or..?" He started.

"Not exactly. You were with my friend Caroline the other night right?" I asked curiously.

"Yeah." He perked up. "Did she like it?" He asked.

"I hope I don't regret this... like, what exactly?" I asked unsure.

"Well we made out." He replied.
