Chapter 5
The Wedding Night
Thomas fumed as he stomped around the room. Angelica sat on the bed as she watched him pace back and forth, back and forth. He looked at her and walked up to her. “Are you alright!” He said in a demanding tone that she did not understand. The look of worry covered his face with a mask of rage. His eyes went to their crazy ways that always sat her on edge. She nodded and looked at his black chest. The metal had saved his life but it did not stop the ball from making a huge bruise in is skin. He growled and threw off jacket then his torn shirt and threw both at the entrance door. This revealed a complicated device around his right arm. Metal was clinging to his skin as little round circles with grooves spun hear his wrist. The gun was behind the wrist in an odd position. He took his contraption off and put it on the desk. A knock came at the door that caused him to draw out his sword. “Come and face me if ye dare!!” He barked.
“Its Franklin. Im just wanting to make sure you are ok.” Thomas went and unlocked the door and snarled at the person in front of him. “Sit down and let me examine you Thomas and stop talking that way your no longer in front of the crew.” The brunet was quite handsome. He had his hair in a neat ponytail and was cleanly shaved. In his hand was a tan sack that he set down next to her on the bed. He nodded at her and smiled as he motioned for her husband to sit down. She scooted over as Thomas sat next to her. The man looked at the bruise and shook his head. “I swear Thomas you have a death wish…” he said annoyed as he pulled out some torn cloth and started to wrap the bruise. When he was done he tide it taught and gently. He felt the bruised area causing Eyston to wince and slap Franklin on the face. Angered Angelica slapped him on the head.
“He is trying to help you don’t hit him!” She hissed at him. Franklin laughed and shrugged.
“Im used to it. It would be weird if he didn’t hit me.” He went back and touched the spot again causing Thomas to wince again. Thomas lifted his hand and then looked at Angelica who glared. “You broke at least two rips Tom. So don’t do anything to strenuous for at least two weeks or at least don’t throw yourself off things for two weeks. ” He closed his sack and then stood up. “I’ll send dinner in here tonight. I am guessing you will want to be alone with your new bride.” He winked at Angelica who rolled her eyes. “If you ever need anything call me my queen!” He bowed low and his tone was serious almost flirtatious. “I am the medicine man of sorts on this vessel and will be happy to serve you in any way I can.” He looked up and smiled “And I mean any way” He got up and left the room. Angelica felt awkward when Franklin was around. He watched her closely and looked at her with hungry eyes. She would have to be wary around him. Her husband, however, seemed to be oblivious to the whole thing as he was brooding over the wrap.
“I will jump off whatever I please” He murmured unhappily as he got up going to the closet to grab another shirt that was identical to the first shirt. Another knock came and a few men entered carrying trays of food. They left them on the desk and left. Thomas went to the door and locked it. “What happened to these being my private quarters!?!” He yelled at the door as he walked to the food. “Come eat!” He said motioning towards the food. She did as instructed beginning her first night as a married woman.
By the time they finished eating the sun had gone down and few candles lit up the room. He went into the room next to the closet again and fit himself snuggly between the door. Once behind he disseapered. Angelica sighed unsure what she should do by herself. She grabbed a candle, and lit it. Holding it carefully she entered the closet trying to find something she could sleep in. At the very end of the closet she found a wall mirror that looked to be over a hundred years old. She wish the moons gaze could reach inside the closet so she could get a better look, but no matter how hard she tried all she could see was its brilliant reflection. Shrugging her shoulders Angelica again searched for the night clothing and she found them behind the mirror. What she assumed was the end was just a stopping point for the day cloths. She looked on the woman’s side and found a shear silk night gown. The Sleeves had been cut off leaving only thick straps to keep the dress up. Sighing she took it and figured that it could fit her. She went back through the closet carful to set the clothing a blaze. Once out she closed the door and changed into the night gown. The fabric was soft and hugged her as if she was an angel. She smiled and twirled in the moonlight wanting to get the feel of the dress. That was when a cough came from behind her. She turned startled to see her husband standing there watching her. He had in his hand that was blocked by the nights shadow. He walked past her and opened a balcony door allowing more moonlight to come in. In his hand was a small bracelet. The piece was a white gold with little diamonds that surrounded small sapphires. It matched her ring perfectly. He placed it on her right wrist and sighed.
“I wanted to give it to you as a wedding present…” He said softly and closed the balcony door not allowing her to stare at the jewelry anymore. Thomas blew out all the candles and then sat at the edge of the bed and took off his boots. She felt as if she was going to faint. “This is it…” She thought to herself as she sat on the opposite side of the bed. Angelica heard him toss his shirt across the room and put his whole body on the bed. His arm went about her waist and pulled her closely to him. They sat there for a few moments with her back towards him. “ Lay down please..” he whispered into her ear. She did as instructed but keept her back to him. Thomas’s hand stayed around her waist only causing her heart to beat faster with worry. His other hand pet her hair soothingly. He didn’t move to take her clothes off or to kiss her all he did was lay there holding her and petting her hair. She slowly began to relax realizing that he was indeed never going to violate her. Once she relaxed she felt him relax more.
“May I ask you a question?” She whispered to him.
“Yes..” he murmured back to her pulling her back closer to him.
“Whose ring… was this before it became mine….” She closed her eyes tightly expecting him to go into another rant about how he did not harm women. She felt like she deserved to know whose ring it use to be before he stole it.
“It was my mums…. The bracelet was as well….” He whispered sweetly into her ear. “They are the only items my brother and I have left of her.” Thomas sighed sending his breath onto her neck. His breath caused her to shiver but wither it was from terror or delight she did not know. “His mums… He gave me something personal to him and his brother. A total stranger whom he married.”She thought as she turned to face him. His sea blue eyes looked into her emerald green.
“Why did you marry me?” She whispered so softly it was almost inaudible. He didn’t answer her this time he just kept staring at her. She didn’t know wither he heard her or not. His arm pulled her closer to him and he flipped onto his back allowing her to be halfway on the bed, and halfway on his chest. Angelicas face grew hot not knowing what to do. She wriggled down making it only her head and shoulders on his chest. He yawned and slowly the two of them fell asleep.
