Chapter 29
Going Back
Robert
Robert climbed down quickly trying his best not to keep Thomas waiting. The trip down was much faster than the way up. He had reached the easier angle in less than an hour. “It was bewitched” he muttered. The way up had taken the two men hours upon hours to reach the cliff ridge. He made sure to avoid the pit where McGovern fell. Finding two pieces of wood he took the string out of his shirt and tied them together. Sticking the cross in the stones he took out his knife and carved McGovern on the cross. He sighed, prayed and ran down trying to make up for lost time. His rush was soon halted when he reached the long trip down the mountain face.
The mountain hated him and he knew it. His open shirt ripped and tore on the rocks causing his chest to be turned into ground meat. His hands bled and so did his feet. The whole trip seemed montnonuse. Was step down scratch, one hand moved gash ect ect. He rested on the man-sized hole in the mountain face trying to catch his breath. His bloody hands were making it difficult for him to hold on to the mountain. Tearing his shirt the first mate rapped his hands with the material. The cloth soaked up some of the blood. Robert sighed and continued his descent down. The sun was starting to fade when he reached the bottom of the mountain.
“I hate land” he growled as he walked towards the village. Once he arrived darkness had filled the sky and the only thing left to guide him was the bright moonlight. The ground shifted from rock, to ash quickly. Tripping over his feet he fell backward and was covered with ash from head to toe. Groaning he walked to the ocean and began to wash himself off. The salt burned his wounds causing him to cry out in pain. The ash dripped down his body. He looked down at his reflection and saw that the ash was not coming out of his hair. All of his hair had changed color. Even his facial hair had gone black. He tried his best to wash it all out but it would not come out. It was forever embedded on his body. Groaning he collapsed on the sands tired from all that had occurred that day. Knowing that his brother was waiting on him, he started making the long trek back to the ship.
The sun rose when the ship came into view. A bell sounded and a slender figure came rushing towards him. Angelica hugged him and then looked around him.
“Where is Thomas? Where is my Thomas!?” She demanded shaking him roughly. Stopping she saw his condition and gasped. “Please tell me he is alive please?” tears ran down her face as worry flooded her.
“He’s alive and waiting on me to… To do something for him.” He limped past her trying to make his body move forward. He knew that if he told her that he had to shoot a cannon ball towards her husband that she would kill him. The ship was floating not far off the sand bar so they could swim there with ease. Robert yelped with pain and was glad when he had his body up on the deck. Collapsing once he was on board. George rushed to help him, but Robert shook him off. “Sound the horn as loud as you can!” He ordered. The giant African nodded and did as he was instructed. Meanwhile, Robert crawled over to the nearest cannon. He positioned it towards the mountain and aimed directly where his brother was. Loading it he could see Angelica looking at him nervously, as the pregnant Alyssa arrived on deck. Alyssa rushed over to him insisting that he let her treat him but he told her after he was done.
“Robert what are you doing?” Angelica said as he lit the cannon.
“Following orders and hoping that I don’t kill my brother., ,” Before she could stop him the cannon sounded and the cannon ball went flying out of the ship. “Please don’t let this be a mistake. Protect him Lord.”

After a few seconds birds flew out from the peak. Crashing sounds came from the mountain and the echoes of destruction filled the air. Angelica was on the beach now pacing nervously, Nathanial was on deck looking out at his mother confused at all that was happening. Alyssa treated Robert as gently as she could.
Two hours passed and the sounds dissipated. A faded image appeared in the distance. It was heading towards them. When it became more into focus he saw that it was Thomas. He sighed in relief as Angelica bolted off towards Thomas. She embraced her pirate husband and covered him with kisses. Thomas came climbed aboard the ship and dropped two halvs of the cannonball fired. Robert looked stunned and pulled out a long sword from his belt. It was stunning. It had a red orb at the base of the silver blade. A line in the blade was filled with Thomas’s blood. He laughed and kissed his wife and put the blade back in his belt.
‘To the council of kings.” Thomas said as he held out his hand towards his brother. Robert took it and smiled.
“To the council of kings brother.” Robert rose to his feet and smiled at his brother.
