Chapter 4
An Unwanted Wedding
Angelica stood at the railing looking down at the port’s wooden deck. Port Royal, a Pirates paradise. England lacked sufficient number of troops to defend this trading city so it was a safe haven for pirates and buccaneers of all creed. Robert walked with a priest up the gang plank slowly helping the old man on each step. The priest wore the normal priestly garb. His left hand clung tightly to a bible which was placed against his chest, while in his right was a zigzag wooden cane. The two men walked up to the helm, were she would soon be standing. This was a day that was supposed to be one of the happiest of her life, instead it felt her with dread.
She looked up at the sky. The sun shown bright through the puffy white clouds and sea birds flew above squawking in delight. How she envied the birds that above her. They were free to come and go as they pleased, not tied down to one place or to one mate. Angelica looked back at the ports deck, now watching the people who passed. Most were revolting men and harlots, laughing and having a good time. She sighed deeply into her chest causing her white wedding dress to go up and then down. Angelica looked down at her dress. It was stunning. The dress was the same one she had teared up about before. It was soft and fit her figure perfectly. She felt like a princess, but it was not made for her. The blood on the sleeve still haunted her as he tried her best not to look down at it. A small laugh came from below. To her surprise she saw a man that was a crew member holding a little girl on his shoulder. The girl was about five and had dark brown hair that bounced as her father walked. Next to the man was a woman that looked like the young girl holding on to the mans arm smiling. Running around his feet was a raven haired boy, he wore his fathers hat and laughed wildly. The boy could not have been older than eight. He jumped up and down as he talked to his father happy to see him. Soon they left her line of sight. Angelica sighed wishing that was her with the man she loved. All she ever wanted was a husband that adored her and children who loved her. She wanted a normal life with a normal family, but now she would never receive that. Not that, that pirate had a normal life or a normal family, for all she knew they might not be even married and had both children illgetamitly. Robert came up and tapped her on the shoulder.
“Its time Angelica.” He said caringly. Robert wore a blue uniform that she swore she saw in Thomas’s collection. He offered her is arm, and she took it unwontedly. He lead her up the steps to the helm were the priest stood as well as Thomas. Thomas’s back faced her and all she could see was that he was wearing white. When the arrived Thomas turned to her and smiled. He was wearing the white uniform. The one she had admired. He was dashing. His hair was tied back in a poufy pony tail that stuck out the back of his head. He no longer wore the silver rings, and he had shaven. In his belt was a ceremonial saber and a decorative pistol. His hands had white gloves atop them, and his boots shined with polish. She was surprised at the care and attention this man had put into his attire for his wedding day. She half expected him to be wearing the same outfit he had worn every day she had seen him. The priest smiled and squinted at the pair of them.
“Oh great he’s blind so that’s why he agreed to this.” She thought to herself as she took a large gulp. The priest soon started to say the words over them. They knelt and took the piece of bread on their tongs and then drank the wine as a symbol if Christ’s blood. He prayed and continued on with the ceremony. Finally, he came to the Do you’s. Thomas was first and he just had that creepy grin he always had on his face when he said, “I do.”
