Chapter 6
The Wrong Arm
Angelica leaned against the railing as the wind blowed her hair back. The sea air kissed her skin sweetly as the ship bounced upon its waves. It had been two and a half weeks since she was captured and married by pirate Captain Thomas Eyston. Her life was not normal but it soon became routine. Every morning she woke up ate breakfast, changed, went on deck and watched the crew, went back to her room to take a nap, return on deck, eat dinner in the officers dining room, and then fell to sleep in the arms of her husband. To most women the last part would be romantic, but to Angelica it was just creepy. Thomas flew below her on his rope as he rushed around the boat like he did the second day she met him. He was laughing loudly as his brother yelled at him not to cut the rope this time. She smiled slightly. Wither she would admit it or not she was starting to enjoy her husbands eccentricities. How he loved to feel the sea and the air through his entire being. She could still not wrap her head around the inventions because each one seemed to leave a burn or draw blood somewhere on him. She laughed as Thomas ran up and jumped over her head and onto the deck. He walked to his brother and dropped his knife at his feet. After that he flew off the deck and began running on the side again.
Franklin came up next to her smiling her with both his lips and brilliant brown eyes. “He is crazy is he not Mrs. Eyston?” She nodded in response to really wanting to talk to him. Franklin was a dashing man that could make any woman’s knee tremble at the sound of his voice. “I hope he is treating you well during the two of yours private time.” He came a little closer.
“Thomas never hurts me and is always gentle.” She said bluntly and sternly to him. Franklin leaned closer to her.
“But have you noticed how he always seems to be hovering over you. Well except during his crazy moments like now.” He smiled and put his arm around her waist. “Let me tell you a secret….” He whispered into her ear. “I’ll tell you why he is mad if you meet me on deck later tonight. Think about it.” He released her waist and she shivered as he walked away. Robert came up to her and noticed how pale she was.
“Are you ok Angelica? Was Franklin making sure you were ok?” She nodded not wanting for another person to be killed on her account.
“Yes he was just making sure I was ok…” She lied. Thomas ran up and jumped over her again. She turned and watched him hoping he did not see what just happened. He ran up to her grabbed her by the waist and jumped over the side. She screamed and closed her eyes waiting to fall into the water but instead she hung there firmly in her husband’s grasp. She looked at him. “What do you think you are doing!!??!!” She yelled furious with him. That’s when she noticed he was only holding her with one arm and her hands went immediately to his neck in terror not wanting to fall in. He laughed wildly.
“Put your hand in the water Annie” He said to her. “What did he just call me?” She thought as she shook her head no and buried her head into his chest. His head nudged hers to look up at his. She was rarely facing her husband when they slept and it was dark so she hardly noticed the little scare that was on the right side of his nose. She wanted to touch it and ask how he got it, but this was not the time or the place. He kissed the top of her head gently, the first kiss he gave her since their wedding day. His five o’clock shadow rubbed against her head. “Annie trust me. Put your hand in the water” She gulped and looked up at him. Eyston’s blue eyes were filled with warmth as she nodded. Adjusting herself she leaned down and put her hand in the running sea water. She smiled slightly as the cold water tickled her fingers. The sea breeze seemed to shower her with kisses as he slowly ran along the side keeping a firm grasp about her waist. She laughed quietly to herself as he picked up speed. This was extremely unsafe and they could go plunging into the water at any moment, but she had to admit that this was fun. He laughed and went over there balcony and dropped her on it. He then untied the rope and went flying onto the balcony himself causing himself to land into the door and roll into the room hitting a wall hard. She ran to him hoping he was conscious. He looked up to her and started to laugh. Angelica could not help but laugh as well. He got up and dusted himself off. “Did you like it Annie?” he said as he walked towards her.
