Chapter 19
Going to the Masquerade
Thomas
The outfit fit snuggly around Thomas’s figure. He was glad that the Duke and him were close in stature, and width. He threw a black cape with inner red lining over his shoulders and secured the silver pendent clip in the middle of his neck. Thomas tied the red cummerbund around his middle and adjusted his black vest. The top button on his black shirt constricted his air so he undid it gently. His red jacket fit neatly over his arms, the gold and silver embezzlement made swirls over the arms. The front had golden buttons and stripes connected to the buttons. He dusted off his black leather boots that were underneath his red paints that matched his jacket. A ceremonial sword hung from his left hip. The sheath was gold with red rubies embedded in it. His blacked gloved hands grasped the mask. The mask was red and black. There was a cloth outlining on the entire outer frame. The red and black faded together as the red and black embroidery seeped throughout the mask. He placed it securely on his face and then put his left hand on the top of the sword. Turning the mirror reflected a man that Thomas did not recognize. He saw a nobleman of pure breed ripped for the picking. Unfortunately, that nobleman was him. Standing beside him in a similar outfit just without the jacket and in a dark navy and black was Daniel. His mask had a long curved nose and was black and navy.
“We look good Captain.” Daniel exclaimed as he turned admiring himself in the mirror. “I might pick up a countess tonight don’t you think?” He winked at Eyston and moved towards the door. Thomas took in a deep breath, and chuckled at the matching dagger that was on Daniels waist. “Maybe you will get a real weapon when you mature” He thought as he walked to the door.
“Don’t forget the plan Daniel don’t forget the plan.” They exited heading to the ball room.

“Duke Rafael Cadiz and his ward Dante” The man banged his long golden stick as the tow were announced into the room. The descended the stairs in as dignified a manner as the two of them could muster. Thomas observed all those in the room. Many women stared up at the two with happy eyes, that were attempting to be hidden behind masks and fans. A few men looked the same way which worried Thomas immensely.
“Stick to the women stay clear of all men…” he whispered to Dante whom nodded in agreement. At the bottom of the stairs he was met by a Viscount and his young daughter. They were extremely polite and Daniel was taken by the young raven haired girl. Soon the two were dancing on the floor doing the new waltz that he knew the British would be abhorred to see. The Viscount was polite asking how his brother was in Italy, and asked when his niece would be at court. He talked a little more with the father before heading towards the king’s throne. To the kings right was his mother who was muttering something to herself as she played with the lace of her gown. His wife was to his left and his young son was to her left. Bowing low he paid his respects to the man whom held the key to his whole scheme. “My Sovereign I am excited to meet this angel whom you have told me of and my anticipation has reached its peak. I was hoping you would point her out to me, and maybe after this evening perhaps persuade her father to let me take her out on a private picnic at the edge of your property near the lake. The flowers are in bloom and the fragrance is impeccable. I think it would be the perfect spot to further this soon to be budding romance that you my king have been so gracious to provide to me. I am only afraid that if I asked her father that he would find me presumptuous or rude even and I would hate to insult her father who is a great man in your realm. That is why I ask my loving, and caring cousin who is wiser than anyone I know, for you must be to run this country as smooth as you do.” Thomas’s words dripped off his sly tong and seemed to ensnare the king who’s smile kept growing wider and wider with each note of flattery. He had to get her alone far away and alone. There he could whisk her away with ease and be long gone before anyone even suspected anything. Underneath the kings beard he could see that his Royal Highness had already taken the bait from the cleaver pirate’s trick.
“Of course!” the king clapped his hands happily.”I was going to suggest something very similar to that but instead it was going to be the Opera.” “ I am sure you were, you lard of nobility.” Thomas thought smiling to himself. “But your suggestion is much better. I will talk to him directly after he and she arrives which should be extremely soon. I had the best dress makers in the Holy Roman Empire brought here to make her gown and mask. She is going to the most beautiful woman here and you will be unable to miss her. She will make the grandest entrance as well I made sure that this evening that she would be treated as a princess, and you shall be here prince.” I already am…” Thomas thought. “ I even gave her a new title as Countess. While her father is not a count she will and her offspring will always hold the title” He laughed heartily. Thomas smiled realizing that he was now married to a countess.
“Lord Nacio Ramanos!” The announcer yelled out and stomped his staff hard on the floor. The man descended looking smug underneath his mask. Thomas could tell that her father thought he had one, but he could only be further from truth. At the bottom he looked up as he turned. A louder barrage of trumpets sounded. “LADIES AND GENTLMAN! MAGISTIES! MY KING! MAY I PRESENT THE COUNTESS ANGELICA ROMANOS!” Thomas caught his breath as he saw his wife at the top of the stair case. “You truly are an angel” He thought with a large grin on his face.
“Hello Mrs. Eyston” He said softly under his breath.
