Alright! So this chapter may seem a little boring in parts and monotanis but trust me when I say chapter 9 parts 1 & 2 are important. The 1st part sets up the foreshadowing of the 2nd part so bare with me. Small talk is important to a relationship as well as long rants. I hope you enjoy it ^^

Chapter 9

Part 1

A Love is Recognized

Angelica yawned as she woke. Her long black wavy hair covering her face, and obstructing her view. A laugh came from above her. A giant hand pushed her hair out of her eyes. When the black strains left her eyes she looked up to the smiling face of her husband. Thomas’s stubble slowly returning to his handsome sea worn face. Her hand removed the rest of her hair as she sat up fixing her hair. When she was done she looked back at her husband. He was truly a dashing man. His chest was well defined, his arms were strong, as was his chin and the rest of his body. Her fingers traced the scars on his chest going up and down the numerous bodily injuries he had, had. Her hand went to the long scare that went from the top of his right shoulder down to his hip. Angelica’s hand went over and over that scar. It was thick and long.

“How did you get this?” She said to her husband as her hand continued to trace the long scare. His face grew serious and slightly pale. Her hand removed itself from his chest. “You do not have to tell me.” She layed her head back on top of his chest, and listened to him breath.

“There was a little girl.. .  I don’t even know her name. She was kneeling at her fathers dead body crying. Her mum was holding her baby brother close weeping. I was about eighteen. Captain Hodges had us raid a small town in the Colonies. Hodges was a cruel, cruel man. He…. He grew a liking to the young girl…. And he wanted to…. He wanted. . .  to. .  .” He started to tremble with the thought. Angelica sat up and slowly started to stroke his arm.

“I get the idea. . .” She whispered to him. He nodded.

“Well I wouldn’t let him. And that made him furious. He had such a temper. Hodges slashed me a deep as he could. The towns healer had a heck of a time trying to sew up my wound.” He chuckled slightly remembering how the healer struggled. “I was flogged twenty lashes for insubordination. Just imagined if he didn’t like me. But the girl was not touched. . .” He said firmly. She nodded. Angelica wanted to see his back but she would not push him. He looked at her and tilted his head. She held back a smile as he did so. His hair flopped down as his arms slowly went up. He pulled her too his body and held her close. His lips kissed the top of her head. She sighed happily when a knock came at the door.

“We are ready to get under way Captain!” Robert called.

“I’ll be right there Robert!” he called back getting up and putting his shirt and jacket back on.

“Can’t he do it?” She murmured to Thomas as he put on his boots. The truth was she wanted to be selfish and keep him to herself. Her arms went around his waist. She laid her head on his back.

“I need to get us under way. I shall return once I see everything is set right.” He stood up and put on his sword and pistols. He went to the door and walked out of it closing it behind him. She groaned and laid back down on the bed, “Why can’t I get through to him?” she thought. “UGH!!!” She threw a pillow over her head and then leaped up. Once she was on her feet she felt the pain in her stomach. “Be careful Angelica…” She told herself as she paced the room. “ I get so close and then…. Then he pushes me away. Its as if he likes being insane!” She stopped in the center of the room looking as if a light bulb went off over her head, “He escapes into the unreal to escape what is real. . .” She said softly. “He cannot handle what happened to him so his mind went off kilter and by me trying to tear down his walls and bring him back to sanity is bring a flood of those memories he has not dealt with and is now having to face!” She snapped her fingers as if it all now made since or as much sense as it was going to make. “Why do I have to love a man, who can’t be brought to sanity….” She stopped her rant and touched her lips realizing what she had just admitted too. She loved him. Angelica was in love with her husband something she never deemed possible. She sat on the floor as her face grew hot and red. Her fingers fidgeted with her ring as her gaze remained focused on the windowed doors. “I-I-I love him. . .” She whispered to herself. Angelica stood up and went to the balcony doors and opened them. She did not care if she was still in her night gown she needed some fresh air. She watched as the men untied the ropes on the port as she heard her husband yelling orders. Two well dressed Spaniards watched them intently as if studying what they were doing. They made her feel extremely uneasy at first until they caught sight of her and seem to light up with the very sight of her. They smiled brightly and waved to her sweetly. Angelica brushed of the uneasiness and waved back at them. They started to float away when a large mass came crashing down next to her. She jumped and backed away only to realize it was Thomas. “Tommy!” She hit him and laughed as he scooped her up she yelled with a giggle as he spinned her back into the room. He placed her gently on the bed then went back and closed the doors.

“Told you I would be back soon.” He said as he turned back to her and leaned against the glass doors. Angelica sat on the bed and looked at him and grinned.

“Tell me about yourself. . .” She asked him. He laughed loudly and walked up and knelt at her feet.

“What do you want to know?” His eyes seemed to sparkle when they looked up at her. His lips curled up in a smile almost every time he saw her and she knew he adored her. That was all she ever wanted a husband who would adore her, and there he was kneeling before her.

“Everything…” She whispered and leaned down and kissed his lips softly. “But I’ll start with where you were born and your family.” She chuckled. He stood up kissing her back as he sat on the bed.

“Well, I was born in the small village Cockington in Torbay England. Mi dad was a renown jewler who took care of the nobility of England and at one point even made a necklace for the crown princes bride. But when my mother was pregnant with Robert he wanted his sons to have a better life so he took us to the colonies. Men and women would still send jewels and wait months upon months for him to craft and send it back and he found he could charge more for sea travel. Mi mum was gorgeous. She had flowing golden blonde hair, and dark blue eyes.” He said sighing as he remembered.

“Your and Roberts eyes.” He nodded and stopped his story there. She smiled and was happy that he told her even that small portion of his past. “Where are we going?” She asked trying to change the subject for him.

“We are headed to Italy, than Egypt, and then back to Veracruz for rest.” He smiled as he laid on his side looking up at her. She laid down on her side looking at him.

“Sounds like an exotics trip.” He petted her face gently.

“I am hoping that it will prove to be profitable.” She rolled her eyes. “Why does he have to be so charming and then say cold things like that?” She thought as she laid on her back. “What?’ He said as he looked down at her.

                  “Nothing. . .” She whispered
