Chapter 10
A Pirate’s Wife
Angelica looked through their closet trying to determine what she should wear. Groaning she didn’t want to wear expensive silks or a heavy gown. She just wanted something she could move in freely and not have to worry about ruining her outfit. She switched and looked on her husband’s side and smiled when she found exactly what she was looking for.
Angelica strode up the stairs, her heeled black boots thumping with each step. Her brown gloves with a cuff on the top slowly brushed off some dust that was on her semi-baggy brown pants. She adjusted the red sash that was around her waist. She had put the rapier he had given her to protect herself. She added a long dagger just because she the looked better with another weapon. She had found a collared shirt in on her husband’s side and was able to adjust it to were her breasts were not showing. Angelica had to scrowned around but she finally found one of Thomas’s purple bandanas that could hold back her hot black hair. She stepped on to the deck and took a deep breath in letting the sea air fill her lungs. They had been traveling for two days and were almost to Italy. One of the men who was scrubbing near the stairs looked up and it looked as if his eyes were about to pop out of his skull. He watched her walk to the helm almost drooling as she went by.
“How much longer until we arrive Robert?” She asked her brother-in-law as she went and stood beside him.
“Not too much longer one more day and we will. . .” He looked at her and stopped talking. “How did you manage that? And can you get me a woman who looks exactly like you? With all respects” He stumbled over the last part as he watched her. She blushed and then chuckled.
“I was tired of being so hot in those dresses, and I was destroying the bottoms with all the nails they kept getting caught on so I just improvised some. . .” She said as she rocked on her feet, with her hands behind her back. Angelica looked around but could not locate Eyston.
“Where is Tommy?” She asked looking at Robert. He pointed up but she still could not see him.
“He’s in the crows nest up top. We’re being followed it seems. Thomas is just trying to decided what to do about it.” Angelica walked down onto the lower deck and leaned over the railing looking back.
“I don’t see anyone Robert!” She called back at him.
“You don’t have to see them to know that they are there!” He retorted as Thomas came flying down on a rope. He looked at Angelica and was about to say something and then just shook his head.
“I’ll deal with you later” He said pointing at her. Angelica was about to say something, as she took offense, when Thomas yelled, “Call to Arms Robert we have a Spaniard to bury! Turn her about!” Robert rang the bell for a call to arms as Thomas came to her. “Go below Annie and lock the door.” He said and then walked by her.
“No!” She said at his back that was walking away from her. He stopped and turned and glared at her. His eyes going in and out like before. She knew she had angered him but she didn’t care she was not going to go down below every time they attacked someone. Angelica did not want to die from worry. Thomas looked as if he was going to pop a blood vessel as a vain pulsed in his head. He grabbed her arm and started to drag her up the stairs and then to the stairs that lead to their room. “Let me go Thomas!!” She yelled as she tried to wriggle from his grasp. Robert stopped his brother.
