Chapter 8
Pirate Vs. Pirate
They sailed towards the Mediterranean. After a few weeks they were half way to their destination. Thomas would not let her out of his sight. His arm was constantly around her waist. He kept her close to him, and for some odd reason she did not mind. She started to like having his arm around her. They looked out over the helm as she leaned against him. His arm was gently around her. Her right hand rested on top of his that was over her stomach. She sighed with contentment. His thumb rubbed her waist tenderly as he sighed back with the same contentment. His lips kissed the top of her head and he slowly closed his eyes. She smiled very slightly not really knowing why.”What are you thinking about?” he whispered into her ear sweetly.
“Wouldn’t you like to know…” She teased him. I am not flirting with my husband the insane pirate, no I couldn’t be, could I?” she thought and almost shook her head, when he chuckled in her ear.
“Yes very much so…” He whispered as his nose and lips seemed to barley touching her neck. It made her skin tingled with some unknown feeling. Thomas’s other hand went around her waist enclosing her hand underneath his.
“I was just thinking. That. . .” She started to say when a yell came from above them in the crows nest.
“Pirate off the port bow!!! It looks to be Spanish!!!” Thomas released her and retrieved his periscope from his pants pocket and opened it. He looked in the direction the look out said and spotted it.
“ROBERT!!!” he called loudly to his brother who came rushing to his side. He handed his younger brother the periscope.
“Juan Garcia. . .” Robert said breathlessly.
“That’s what I thought, call to arms Robert!” he said loudly as Robert started to yell call to arms. Thomas went up to Angelica and wrapped his arm around her and quickly wicked her down to their room. He went to the room that was always locked and spread the doors right opened. Inside were tables filled with guns, metal wires, knobs and gears. On the far wall were two separate doors that lead to two different rooms. He went to the one on the left winding his way through the tables, and to the door. Inside were weapons so many that she couldn’t name. “Come here. Come here now!” he said urgently. He grabbed a rapier the thinnest he could find. Thomas sheathed it and then put a belt around her tying it tightly. He put holsters on it to carry two sets of pistols. “These are just in case you understand. You are not to use these unless the Vengeance falls or that door gets broken down. He handed her the key to the entrance and grabbed a sharp cutlass and a few pistols for himself. He grabbed her hand and pulled her through the maze and closed the door behind them. He grabbed her around the waist and kissed the top of her head hard. “Lock the door and only let me or Robert in do you understand?” She closed her eyes tightly and leaned against him and nodded. He started for the door and she grabbed his arm wanting once again for those words for him not to leave her come out, but yet again they couldn’t. Instead all she could say was,
“Be safe. . .” He kissed her hand and walked out the door. She locked it behind him wanting so badly to go with him.
Angelica waited for the sounds of the Pirate raid. So far she could hear the rushing of feet getting ready for battle. And the loud thump, thump of her heart that beat wildly inside her chest. She didn’t know if she was scared for herself or Thomas who was up on deck ready to fight to protect his ship, his crew, and her. A loud volley of gunfire came from across the sea and banged into the Vengeance hard causing the whole boat to shake. She could hear her husband yelling orders. Cannon blasted from their ship in response. He ordered them to fire at will and barrage the other ship until it sank into the watery depths. Angelica wished she could see him as he commanded his men into battle, sure his tactics were probably out of the ordinary but after living with him for a few months nothing was ordinary. She just wanted to see if he behaved sanely in battle or was he just insane in all circumstances. Then came the moment she had hoped wouldn’t happen the cannons stopped and loud clanking sounds began on their side of the ship. The Vengeance was going sideways towards the other vessel as the two ships were being pulled together. Soon gunshots busted forth from both ships as her husband’s ship was boarded.
