“So what do you want for Christmas?” Selena asked.
We were sitting in the school cafeteria and I sipped on my coffee. I put my cup down. “I don’t know.” I thought about saying ‘death’, “A life.”
Selana shook her head. “Come on, Aiden. You have a life, but you don’t see it. All you see is black.”
“Sorry” I mumbled, “you’re right. Looking on the bright side of life, right?”
It was hard for me to say that because I didn’t live by that. Actually I always looked on the dark side because there was no light to illuminate my world.
“Right.” Selena nodded
“And what are you wishing for?” I asked.
“A happy Aiden and drawing tools.”
“I guess the first one is impossible. I ain’t happy.” I said monotonously.
“It’s not impossible and you know that and yes, you aren’t happy, but you deserve to be.”
“Yes, I, my unworthy self, deserve to be happy.” I was being sarcastic.
“Aiden!” she shouted.
“What?”
“Stop the negativity.” She whispered.
“Sorry, it’s just that I’m a negative person. Pessimist through and through.”
“Indeed. And I’m an Optimist, I need positivity.”
I wanted to ask why she was hanging out with me then, but I knew the reason. She liked me. She had asked me to be her friend.
So I just nodded. Then the bell rang.
“Silence is over.” Selena sighed.
We had had a free period and could sit in the cafeteria almost alone, but now it was lunch break.
I stood up. “I search for Leo.”
“Leo? Is that a short form of Leonard?” Selena asked.
“Yup. You wanna come with me?”
“I would like to, but I have to wait here for Kira.”
“Oh, okay. See you later.” I said and left the cafeteria.

I didn’t understand why Selena liked Kira. Kira was a bitch.
Okay, maybe that was a bit harsh, but in me eyes she still was. She was childish and arrogant, nasty and annoying, manipulative and aggressive and most of all she was unlikeable.
She was new at our school and after a few weeks she had made it to catch Selena’s interest. They sometimes hang out together, but Selena still spent most of her time with me.
“You will always come first.” She had told me. I wasn’t sure if I believed that. Till now it seemed to be true.
Of course I was fine with her having other friends than me, but she was the one I could always count on and now Kira was trying to steal her from me, that was how it seemed to me. She demanded Selena’s time and attention and clarified that she didn’t want me to be there when she was with Selena.
Bitch.

I realized that I had stopped walking and had clenched my fingers.
“Okay, keep calm.” I told myself, “Inhaling. Exhaling. Inhaling. Exhaling. In –“
“What are you doing, Aiden?”
I shrugged and saw Leonard standing in front of me.
“Since when – I was trying to calm down.”
I looked behind him on the hallway and saw an open door, so he had probably just come out of the room. With plenty of other student who were walking down the hallway. “And I was waiting for you” I added.
“I know.” He said and smiled at me. “You told me.”
“I did? Old men’s getting senile.” I laughed quitely.
“What am I then?” he asked provoking.
“Well…” I tried thinking of a good answer, “You’re an barely young human being which is looking young and good.”
“Okay, firstly, I’m not barely young. I feel and am old, at least older than you. Secondly, who said I am an human being? You have no prove. And finally, okay, you’re right I look young, but good? You better put on your glasses.”
“I don’t need any. But wait, what? Do you deny being a human being? What are you then?”
“I could be everything.” He whispered.
I burst out laughing “Sure!”
“Maybe I’m an alien.”
I raised an eyebrow. “We’ll never know.”

I sighed. I wished my life had more beautiful moments like this.
I hugged Leonard and whispered: “Thank you.”
