At lunch I see all the boys plus Olivia sitting at our usual lunch table. I see Luke sitting at the other end of the table next to Michael. I sit next to Olivia and across from Ashton.
"Hey love, how are you?" Ashton asks with a bright smile on his face.
"I'm alright. So are you guys excited for your gig at the pier this weekend?" I say trying to make conversation. The whole time I was staring at Luke, we make eye contact and he has a sad expression on his face. Which is different because the only ever emotion he showed on his face was anger.
"We're so pumped, can you guys believe it? For once we won't be playing in our garage and our audience will be more than Liv and Michael's dog!" Ashton says with excitement.
"Hey!" Michael and Liv say at the same time.
The rest of the time during lunch I just sat quietly. I nodded my head every now and then to make it seem like I was still interested. I didn't really want to talk to anyone, so I tried to hide my emotions as best as I could.
On my way to fourth period I walk with Michael and Liv, who happened to be in my class. I hear a voice calling my name from behind. "Alia!" I look back to see Ashton speed walking towards us.
"Hey Ash, what's up? I ask listening to Ashton pant as if he just ran a 5k.
"I actually had something I wanted to ask you about tonight." Ashton smiles and looks at the ground. His smile sure was adorable, especially when he was shy.
I chuckled, "what is it? Did we have plans tonight?" Olivia gives me a weird look as if I meant it as a date. I give one back saying that's not how I meant it. It was weird how well we could communicate just by giving each other looks.
"Actually I was hoping we could. Would you wanna go on a date with me? To the beach maybe?" Ashton looks up from the ground to meet my gaze. Now that Luke and I were possibly a thing I couldn't keep leading Ashton on, it isn't even what I wanted to do in the first place.
I looked down for a moment and then back at Ashton. "I'm really sorry Ashton, that sounds amazing... But it's just not a good time right now."
Ashton's look becomes sad as he hears the words escape my lips. I can't help but feel awful for turning him down. I turn my eyes towards Michael and Liv who hadn't left. Now I felt even worse. How did I not know they were standing there? I just turned down Ashton in front of our friends Great. How worse of a person can I become?
"No I get it, It's okay. I gotta get to class though I'll see you later." I can hear the sadness in his voice and he begins to walk away.
I put my hands over my face feeling terrible. "I just ruined our friendship didn't I?" I say as I watch Ashton walk down the halls.
Michael throws his arm over my shoulder. "He'll be okay Al. I'll check on him later." He says squeezing me with his arm.

After school Liv decides to come over because the boys and both of us decided to go to the movies again. This time I was told Luke and Ashton weren't coming. It saddened me to think the boy I wanted to be with, and the boy who was my new best friend, weren't going to come to the movies with us. But I then again remembered they were both upset with me, and I understood each person's reasoning. I still felt really bad about turning Ashton down in front of our friends earlier, but I also felt bad for making Luke upset.
When we got to my house I told Liv I was going to take a shower and get ready. Instead I went into the bathroom to give Luke a call. I didn't like not being able to talk to him all day.
I walk in the bathroom pacing back and forth while the phone rings, and to my surprise Luke answers.
"Hey." He says quietly.
"Hey, is now a bad time? I ask.
"Look Alia-" I cut him off before he can continue to talk.
"Luke can I please talk? I turned Ashton down on a date today. And worst of all I did it in front of our friends. So if that doesn't prove to you that Ashton isn't my number one priority I don't know what will. I didn't want to hurt the friendship we had, but I also really want to be with you. And I just... Apparently I can't have both." I stop pacing and sit on the bathroom floor, tears fill my eyes but I push them back.
"I'm sorry I keep screwing this up Alia. I want to make you happy more than I do hurt you... Apparently I can't even do that."
"I don't deserve to have to choose between you. And I don't deserve for you to avoid me everytime I just try to see if my friend is alright. If this is going to work you have to trust me." My voice cracks and a tear falls down my cheek.
"Please let me make it up to you. Let me pick you up for the movies tonight."
"I thought you were 'swamped' with homework?" A small chuckle escapes my lips.
"I am, but I'd rather hang out with you and hear that beautiful laugh." He replies with a little laugh. He sure did have the cutest laugh. "I'll see you at 7:00." He says.
We both say goodbye and I start getting ready for tonight. I don't know if Luke and I going to the movies with our friends counted as a date but either way I was excited.
After I finish taking a shower and drying my hair I head back into my room where I see Liv beaming with excitement as soon as I walk in.
"Umm what's going on?" I ask with a confused smile.
"I'm not supposed to tell you but ugh... I can't keep it in any longer! Luke is going to officially ask you out tonight!" She yells.
My stomach begins to fill with butterflies and I can't help but have a huge smile plastered on my face. Maybe Luke was really starting to prove to me that he really wanted to be with me as much as I wanted him.
"How do you know?" I ask with excitement.
"He texted Calum and told him and then Calum texted me. Neither of us can keep a secret!" She falls backwards into the bed and I sit down next to her.
"This is going to call for a serious makeover!" She exclaims.
I agreed to let Liv give me a makeover. She runs over to my closet throwing things behind her, each article of clothing hitting me with each throw. When she's finally done she picks out a pair blue vintage jeans, a yellow and white flowered crop top along with my white high top converse. After I finish putting on the clothes she does my makeup for me. She told me many times she wanted to go into fashion design or be a makeup artist, so I let her practice on me a lot.
Once she was done I took a look in the mirror and as usual I was blown away how talented she was. Even in casual clothing she was some how able to make me look good.
"How you're able to make me feel more confident each time is beyond me." I say looking at myself in the mirror.
"Or maybe it's just you're naturally gorgeous?" She exclaims.
I roll my eyes and hear my sister knock on the door. "Al, Luke's here." She says surprisingly casual. I was a little shocked she wasn't grilling me about why a boy was at the door for me.
I open the door to see my sister. "How do you know who he is?" I ask confused.
"Probably because he told me his name and asked for you." She says with a sarcastic tone.
I roll my eyes at her comment. "Whatever, tell dad I'll be home by 9:30 and that I didn't have any homework."
She nods and heads back to her room. I turn to Liv with a smile on my face. "Are we ready to go on a date?" I say through my giant smile.
She looks at me with a big smile. "A double date plus Michael? How could I pass that up?" We both laugh and head downstairs to see Luke.
