 (Some Time Later)

Days had passed since Epifanio had been kidnapped. Wounds healed and bruises faded. Epifanio was working back at his office. Camila's father came to check in every now and then. He was much nicer now. Epifanio noticed that even though everything was fine, or so he thought, Camila was growing more and more distant. She would barely speak around him and she wouldn't speak with Isabella much either. It was concerning. He had no idea what was going on.

"Camila?" he asked.

Camila didn't answer. Instead, she gave him a look that allowed him to respond.

"Is everything alright. You haven't been speaking to me or Isabella very much. I'm concerned. What's going on?"

"It's just work. Being the governor's wife isn't easy. I have responsibilities too."

Epifanio stared at her. Did she really think he was going to believe that. He knew something was up at work. It wasn't the work itself, but something or someone that was a part of it. He had to find out.

The next day, he sat at his desk very distracted. He couldn't get what she had said out of his mind. He didn't know exactly what it meant. Epifanio knew something troubled her, but what.

(About 3 days before)

Camila was walking through the building on her way to her office when she was stopped by another group of women. They weren't reporters or participants of news crews. They just wanted to talk with Camila about what it was like to be the wife of the governor. Many, after hearing of his campaign to be governor, had liked both of them a lot.

"What's it like? You know, to be the wife of the governor?" one asked.

"Is it a lot of work?" another said.

"Yes, it is hard work. My husband and I work hard to manage everything for everyone's benefits," Camila responded.

After a while, the group left. All but one remained. She hadn't said anything to her the entire time. Just then, she went up to her and started to talk with Camila. What she said, was another story.

"So, it's hard work. For your husband maybe. You? There's no way you could possibly be working as hard."

"Well to be honest I'm not. While what I'm doing isn't easy, he has more to do than myself," she responded, confused by the other woman's tone.

"Listen here sweetie, my friends and I, we don't like you. We don't know the story behind you or your family, but let me tell you something. We adore Epifanio, but we want you out. Trust me when I say I mean it. You're nothing. You're just a toy for him to play with. A bit of advice. Stop flying freely and get back in you cage birdie. Before you get hurt."

The woman walked away. Camila couldn't believe what she had said to her. It wouldn't be the only time. Several times she came back with her friends and said things about her that hurt. They especially hurt her when they said it would've been better if she had just stayed away. They even reminded her how her daughter had hated while she had been away for only a short time. Her memories sparked. Camila would only remember the fights she had with Isabella and Epifanio.
