(The next morning)
Epifanio woke up. He didn't see Camila. It led him to believe that it had all been a dream. He got up and went to his room to get ready for the day. Before he went to shower, he heard movement. Epifanio opened the door and saw Camila with a towel around herself. She looked up at him. For a while, he just stood there in place.
"Are you going to keep standing there?" she asked.
Epifanio walked over to her and pulled her into an embrace. He couldn't stop smiling. To him, she smelled like roses for hours after she showered.
"Can I get dressed now?" she asked.
He didn't even budge, much less say anything in response. Epifanio only stood there with his arms around her. Camila tried to break loose from his grasp, but his grip got tighter and tighter. Epifanio remembered so many things from the past. He'd almost lost her so many times. He hurt her feelings often too. Was it worth it to get close again?
"Epifanio!" she shouted, her cheeks red.
That got his attention. He looked down at her. Camila's face was no longer slightly pink, but now concerned. She hadn't noticed that he looked like he was about to cry.
"Are you okay?" Camila asked.
"When you were gone, did you ever wish you...." Epifanio said.
"Did I ever wish what?"
"That you never married me? And, not just then, but throughout all the years we've spent together. Did you wish you could've chosen differently and had said no when I proposed?"
"Even when we fought, and all the trouble we faced, not once did I ever think that. Sure I almost got shot once at one of my performances, but I kept hurting myself anyway. Every time I went to the hospital, they told me to quit because I'd only cause myself even worse harm. When you proposed, I saw it as a way to escape, even if it meant going into something else. I never thought of that once. Why?"
"I started this entire thing. I wanted to end it. After you started to get involved, everything changed. I was glad at first, but the DEA started looking into the old business. I couldn't think of what might have happened if we stayed. It caused my parents their untimely death. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to put an end to any other cartel other than just ours. So I ran for governor."
"Epi."
"I-I love you Camila. No matter what."
"As do I Epifanio. One more thing, I feel the same way."
"What?"
"Don't think I don't know," she said, her Cheshire smile appearing.
"I-"
Camila grabbed his face and kissed him. She ran her fingers through his hair while he slid his arms from the middle of her back to her hips. Epifanio went from kissing her, to slightly biting her neck.
(Later)
The office called Epifanio's phone and asked where he was. He told them that he was taking a break for a while.
